Default Plaz 4.5...A little disapponted

Please Login to Remove!

From what I can see I can create a "CUSTOM" theme for the Pearl. I cannot load this theme onto my devise becaue I have a CDMA 8130 w/o software version 4.5. I also cannot test this theme because there is no simulator that allows a theme exported for 4.5.

So pretty much, until there is a software version 4.5 for a CDMA 8130 I am pretty much SOL.

Am I incorrect? If so, please let me know what I need to do.

I also tried to edit the alx file to everything. I could not get a "custom" theme on my device.

help.

I echo'd those same sentiments on Berry Review and was told I am ungrateful and a POS...

This is why I was dissapointed as well. Plazmic could have made the "custom" themes exportable in OS 4.2 and 4.3. And yes, they dropped the ball.

In prior beta versions, the custom theme could be exported in the lower OS', why not make that function work for the released product?

It's possible to export the CUSTOM themes for 4.2 ++ in the 4.5 builder. I have been doing it for a while now.

here's a thought, completely un-tested. Save the theme, and try to open with 4.2.2

It has nothing to do with editing the alx, or opening with 4.2.2

someone will figure it out eventually -

So you do not plan on letting anyone in on the "secret"?

I won't be telling anyone how to do it. It's probably not allowed to export to lower for a reason. I'm just saying it's possible and to look harder.

The help file refers to exporting to 4.2 OS devices, but also doesn't offer any info on how to do it.

If I had nothing else to do I'd poke around, but I develop themes for my own use and I run 4.5, so I have no real need to chase down this little loose end.

Let me start by saying that I really love BBF and , according to my wife, spend far too much time here. That being stated.

I really don't understand the purpose of kind of posts like the one's here from CoreyVisto. If you know how to do it and it isn't illegal, immoral or against forum rules, share the wealth. If you are unwilling to share the information why reply to the question in the first place.

Sorry but what you did, and you aren't the first, is really frustrating and IMO does nothing to help or add to the thread.

Replies to this post are completely unnecessary. I just had to make my opinion on this known.

I just downloaded the new plazmic and am about to make my first journey into theme-building. I'm trying to figure out exactly which of the endless simulators to use for an 8310 Curve on AT & T. Do you have to get that specific, or can you use an 8310 simulator from another carrier? I'm running the latest 4.5 release (?.52) TIM.

I figured it out. You need to edit the "8100custom.properties" file. This file as is does not allow "custom" themes to export to anything other than 4.5. Modify at your own risk.

got it!

The files are located in the Resource/Theme directories, then the 240x260 directory (will have the 8100 files) the 320x240 (will have the 8300, 8800 files) I'd suggest not changing the 7100 or 8700 (is there an os 4.5 for 8700?) files/

these are the lines you edit:

theme.supportedHandheldOs = 4.2.2,4.5
theme.preferredHandheldOs = 4.5
theme.importOs = 4.2.2,4.3.1

Thanks Constabl for pointing the way...a REAL team player.

HERE ARE THE STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS....

you need to edit some files..but its REAL easy. Do it at your OWN RISKxxx8230;.

1) make sure Themebuilder is CLOSED

2) locate the Plazmic CDK 4.5 directory in Program files.

3) go to the directory RESOURCES

4) select the file THEMES

5) look for 2 folders. 1 is dimension240×260, the other dimension 320×240.

6) within the dimension 240×260 there is a file called 8100Custom. Open with Wordpad or Notepad.

7) Edit the following lines to look like this:
The files are located in the Resource/Theme directories, then the 240×260 directory (will have the 8100 files) the 320×240 (will have the 8300, 8800 files) Ixxx8217;d suggest not changing the 7100 or 8700 (is there an os 4.5 for 8700?) files:

these are the lines you edit:

theme.supportedHandheldOs = 4.2.2,4.5
theme.preferredHandheldOs = 4.5
theme.importOs = 4.2.2,4.3.1

Go to the dimension320×240 file and do the same for the 8300Custom, 8800Custom.

I donxxx8217;t think you will find it necessary to edit the 7100 or the 8700 (are the 8700xxx8217;s going to be using OS 4.5?)

ENJOY!

(ps..I'd suggest making a backup of these files in case you messed them up)

I understand it completely.

As I said, I just wanted it to be known that it is POSSIBLE - so that people keep trying to figure it out. I wasn't willing to release the fix for it BECAUSE it's obviously set to 4.5 only by RIM. I'm all for using the fix - but i'm not going to help spread it. And it did help the thread - cause it gave everyone else reassurance that it is POSSIBLE, and to keep trying.

and yes, you guys did figure it out.
