Default BESx 5.0.1, Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit

Has anyone had luck with this configuration? I understand it's pending compatibility on the compatibility matrix but am curious if anyone has been successful with it.

I'm busy doing that now. BES 5.0.1 on Server 2008 64-bit, SQL 2008. Installation seemed to go smoothly, still have to do post-install and add a device, but looking good

Thanks Brendan - and just to confirm, you're using the R2 version?

Sorry, forgot to check that part. No, we are on SP2 only (No Hyper-V). Have had a look at the Compatability matrix for December 2009, and R2 is still being assessed.

Looking at features on R2, the only one which stands out is Powershell 2.0. Maybe someone can advise if BES uses this at all. Bunch of virtualisation extras and Windows 7 support.

I have tried this installation with no real success yet,

I tried to install BES 5 on windows 2k8 r2, that installed ok.

Rebooted and tried to install the 5.0.1 upgrade, it just wont install, wont find the database.

going to try again later but its been a right mission so far

Default R2 + 64-bit?

So...
Do we have someone who definitively has BES 5.01 working on Server 2008 R2(64-bit) or not? I haven't seen R2 explicitly mentioned in the "System Req's" section on the Blackberry site, although Server 2008 SP2 (32 & 64 bit) are both listed as supported. Not seeing too many postings about it.

I'm going to be doing an upgrade to my BES from 4.6.1, and plan 2 new 64-bit 2008 SP2 VM guests for the domain, followed by a migration of all of the users to the new BES. I think I'm going to hold off on R2 for now, as I've got to get this done pronto and it's not a hard requirement at this point. We do indeed need 5.01 though, as we're headed to Exch 2010 relatively soon.

Tx,

Default 2008 R2 'pending' support...

Guess I need to RTFM (Tsk. Tsk. on me!). I just saw the 'compatibility Matrix' on blackberry.com and saw that the R2 is still 'pending' support. But 64-bit 2008 SP2 is DEFINITELY shown as supported. Guess I have my answer.

'm running into the same situation, trying to install BES 5.0, on a W2K8 Server. I'm receiving the same errors with regards to Mapi and CDO. I read in an earlier post that these files have been moved in the latest EXMapiCDO.EXE package to C:\Program Files, instead of (as an example) C:\Windows\System32. I have also installed the ESM tools from Exchange 2007. So I had thought that ESM also provided MAPI and CDO for the BES, but I could be wrong (probably, I getting use to it ). Oh, I had originaly downloaded and installed the older version of MAPICDO to install. I did not uninstall when I downloaded and installed the newer version. Probably should do that .

So my question, do I simply move these files (EXMapi.dll and CDO.dll), and will that solve the install error?

Thanks guys.

Were as Windows 2008 Server was and is more like Vista, R2 is more like Windows 7 (aka Vista R2). On the surface the changes may seem to be minimal but underneith it Microsoft has made some big changes to it.

Yeah, I know R2 has alot of 'under the hood' enhancements, such as pre-loading alot of the functional components that are required by more and more apps (and thus would normally have to be installed to the OS as prerequisites). We're going with R2 for our DCs and many of our other member servers. Unfortunately, I have an Exch 2010 upgrade that I need to get going on, and am being pushed to get the BES upgrade done pronto and beforehand. Also, I think since we're using 64bit SP2 we may be able to upgrade to R2 if we choose later.

I ended up taking my chances and installed 5.0.1 on 2008 r2 64 bit - six servers in a 3 pair HA configuration. Everything has been working great. I'm waiting for the compatibility matrix to go 'supported' before moving it into production.

Default Bes 5.0.1 Mr1

Hello,

I've managed to install BES 5.0.1 and MR1 on a Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise server with MsSQL 2008 R2. The machine is running in a virtual environment (v-sphere 4) and so far I've got no problems with it.

I'm planning of migrating (side by side) to a BES 5.0.1 Domain on Domino 8.0.2fp4 running on Windows 2003 R2 SP2 64 bit or 2008 SP2. I'm currently running BES 4.1.6 on Domino 7.0.2. I would be very interested to hear your opinion if you have similar plans, already migrated to a similar environment. What was your experience with the Transporter tool and what you think of the 64bit OS, upgrade process, etc...

All,

I have installed BESx 5.0.1 cleanona Windows 2008 R2 64bit with SP2 installed along with Exchange 2007 SP2. The installation went smoothly. However, I am having issue with the MAPI profile resolving. I followed the service account creation setup and ran the IEMSTest but am getting a failure connecting. Any hints on how to proceed?

I was hoping to download BPS Express for this customer but I don't see it anywhere any more. Was very comfortable with its install and interface. Any help is appreciated. Still waiting on Blackberry to call me.

There are a couple of other postings in this sub-forum of people having the same issue. From what I was reading it has to do with the 64bit OS and Exchange each needing/using different versions.

So then I might be better off ripping it out of there and installing on a Windows 2003 R2 server, not 64bit, and have it talk to Exchange on the Windows 2008 box?
