Thumbs down Turn-off Voice Dial Voice Prompt?

Please Login to Remove!

I keep my pearl in my pocket. Unfortunately I was in a meeting today and while in my pocket, the voice dial button was inadvertantly pressed triggering a loud "Say a Command" to come out of my pocket.

RIM: This should not happen when the phone's profile is set to Quiet.

Does anyone know if there's an option somewhere to turn-off the voice prompt?

Needless to say, I've reprogrammed the keys so that the side button does not activate voice dial - but voice dial is one of this phone's nicest features.

Prob a good idea, but I would prefer not to have to unlock the phone everytime I want to take it out of my pocket and check an email or whatever.

When the phone is on Quiet, there's no reason for a loud voice prompt to play.

Good point......then again, is it really a big deal to take the extra 1.4 seconds to unlock the phone?

I get the point. No need to continue posting on locking the keys. It just doesn't work for me. The bottom line is that having the phone on Quiet, the phone shouldn't produce any sounds.

Yep, I agree. If the profile says QUIET, all functions should be muted.

However, I don't understand you'd consider it loud. I have mine on the loudest setting and she's barely audible, IMO. (Even in a quiet room)

Well, it was loud enough for everyone in the meeting to look at me

Then of course, I take it out of my pocket to turn it off and it repeats itself. Ah, good times.

No external clients this time and I've remapped the key so I'm safe for the future. Just wish there was a way to silence her.

To reduce your burden by .1 second use the * key to lock the phone. Keep it pressed and it will lock your phone. Hope you also know that keeping # pressed changes te profile to Vibrate so there is less hassle for you.

Quiet is designed so incoming commands like ring and vibrate are muted, not outgoing commands. Your DTMF tones and other items aren't quieted when the device is on quiet. If it went into a truely quiet mode then the phone would function period because you wouldn't have DTMF, ringing, or any other standard phoneside initiated tone working.

There's no way (that I know of) to silence the voice prompt only in Quiet mode, but you can disable the prompt globally through Options/Voice Dialing/Audio Prompt.

Even when the voice prompt is turned off, there are beeps and such, but I haven't experimented to see if they can be muted or turned down through other settings.

Finally, an answer other than the repeated lock the keys response. Thanks WNO!

I've remapped this key to open the browser. However, if I hold down the key instead of clicking it quickly, it opens the voice dialing functionality. Does anyone else have this problem?

Mine is remapped to messages. I'd call this a feature. Two hot keys for the price of one.
