I was apparently thinking about the functionality of Voice Notes a little differently than most people. What I'm hoping to find is an app that will let me pick up my phone in the car (or anywhere a pen and paper aren't available), push a button, and record a memo for myself. I don't want to MMS it anywhere - I just want to come back later and review my voice memos and capture them more formally.
Is there a way to do this with the 8100 as is or is there another app I can download?
This isn't necessarily ideal, but it's best to go on until a future OS version allows us to save:
Assign the voice memo app to one of the convenience keys. (Might make sense to assign it to the right side key -- then you can click that key for voice memos, or hold it in for voice dialing).
Then, as someone in another thread suggests, record the memo, select send as MMS, select an address book entry with a fake (or real, for that matter) e-mail address, select that address, then click "save draft" instead of "send". Works well, and your memos are stored in the messages list.
this is a useful trick, thanks. it's sad though to think that this so called 'cutting edge device' that you fork out hundreds of dollars for doesn't have this most basic of features which is a common requirement....
