Default How do I format a microSD card for use with a BlackBerry?

Please Login to Remove!

I own an 8330 with VZW, I inserted an 8gb microSD and received a message saying it needed to be formatted.

How do I do this?

I always format it in my PC, just like any other drive. But you can go into Options, Media Card, push Menu and Format Card.

I had to take out the battery in mine after I formatted for it to be recognized, so if yours still shows that it needs a format after you've done it, try that.

I never format the ones I use. they work right out of the package. Sometime if you format and it doesn't work or improperly detects the size, then you lose it.

Sometimes it just needs to be reseated again.

Yesterday, I took out my 4gb microSD from my BB and put in my 2gb so I could have a backup [to carry around for trips]. After I was done the copying, I put the 4gb card back in, and it said there was data corruption and that it needs formatting (not the exact wording but you get the drift). I pulled it out and put it back in and all was fine again.

About how long does your formatting process take (from within the BB)? And what size is your card?

Fairly quick
8gb
4.5 OS
8310

You also can use a pc adapter and format the card FAT.
What OS are you running?

Running 8330 w/ 4.5. Trying to format a Sandisk 8GB SDHC, no dice. Device keeps freezing when trying to format. XP computer recognizes it as 30.6 MBs and won't format, Vista show 1.30 TB and won't format. Any suggestions?

I'm formatting it now after upgrading to the official 4.5 OS in hopes that it will fix the spontaneous rebooting that was never a problem before I took bb's suggestion to upgrade the OS when I hooked it up to my computer to BDM (Blackberry Desktop Manager[v.4.7]).

However, the 8gb mini-sd card has absolutely no problem with my 8320; I have been using it in my phone since I got it.

The idea BB gives you that the 8320 curve only accepts up to 2gb is a LIE.

It says 7.39gb. (it takes space to utilize the card, that's why it doesn't say 8.0gb)

It is taking FOREVER to format it - it's actually taking longer than upgrading the OS! It is taking HOURS and it's just past halfway finished!
