Default HTML Email - why do I have to keep clicking "get images?"

Please Login to Remove!

So I have my email set to download in HTML, but when it does I still have to select "get images" in order to download everything. I can't find a means to set it to do so automatically. What am I missing?

I have also been wondering the same thing. I hate having to select "get images" from the menu every time. Could someone figure out a way to avoid this.

Wirelessly posted (you serious Clark?)

I noticed it only does it on a few of mine, I get daily bank statements and it always downloads them automatically.

From what I understand, it will download the images automatically (if you have the option selected to do so) if the image is embedded into the message. If the image is a link to take you to a website, you will have to select "get images" in order to see them. I believe this has to do with security.

Ah, makes sense. Most HTML email are from businesses I've purchased from, so those pics are probably links to their sites.

Thanks. Although I still wish RIM would let *me* worry about it if I so desire to have those images download automatically.

It has to do w/ security...

images which are included in an email are generally more "secure". Image tags in html will open a connection to a website which isn't as safe and reveals information to them since typically they will include tracking information in them.

There is an option under "Email Settings" to Download images automatically. This should retrieve all the images, but bear in mind it will send any tracking info to the website (including your exposed ip address at a bare minimum).

We get this question often for outlook clients who receive newsletters. You can set Outlook to "auto" down the items.....but if it was a spam email, you now just verified to the spammer your a valid target.

Pro/Con and convenience vs spam/security protection. As we move forward, will only get worse as spammers get more creative. I assume in the future we may be able to "whitelist" senders we would like to auto download from and block the rest.

Nothing, it is a security feature. Normally if you click on get all images the blackberry will remember the sender the next time a message is sent. However, if the link is external you will always have to click on the get images option.

Cool

Is this why Blackberry has the best security? No, it goes beyond that because if you do download the images, do I get a security breach? No....

Somebody, anybody, everybody this is a flaw in the OS, in which RIM should address soon.

Because images can hide executable files. Just like e-mail providers like Yahoo! hide images to protect your computer. Granted, the BlackBerry OS has never been hacked because people don't have access to the API's, I believe that it's a "better safe, than sorry" situation.
