Default Carrier Switch

Hey gang,
I am contemplating switching from Sprint to Cingy/AT&T the main reason being is that I want to get either a pearl or an 8800 and I am dog tired of waiting for the CDMA boys to get something new. I know that sounds like a strange reason to switch carriers, considering that Sprint service is darn good where I am/travel to. The only potential drawback is the speed downgrade from EVDO to EDGE The Cingy coverage is real strong in my area in fact my wife is on cingy. My buddy (runs a cingy shop) loaned me a pearl for the long weekend to try out. I really like it. Took a minute to re-learn suretype from my old 7100i days, but I love the size, the camera is a perk but not a deal maker. My only other reservation is needing to get a GPS puck and go that whole route. I use the GPS in my 8703e alot. Would you switch if you were me? Sprint as a carrier has been fine, but the cust serv blows as has been well documented here, and the wait and speculate as to when they will have a new device is for the birds.

Consider a 8800 cause it has built-in GPS.

I'm currently trying out a 8800 with Cingular and loving it. I will getting rid of my Nextel in 2 weeks.

Remember this AT&T only has GSM and cant roam so if you go to places that are rual areas AT&T might not work. Sprint will because it is CDMA. And Sprint is getting the 8830 in july just hold on if you already have good service. you dont no what you will have with AT&T.

Just My Thoughts

Just be sure that at&t's coverage is sufficient for you in all places that you need it. If customer service is a reason to switch from Sprint then I wouldn't switch to at&t. Their CSR's tend to be poorly trained in my experience (whereas TMO's CSR's tended to be very good). I'm with them because of coverage.

Also, I'd recommend looking at the 8800 as well if you use GPS -- unless you really want the camera and/or SureType.

Sprint will because you can roam on analog in rural areas -- not because they're CDMA, right? AFAIK there isn't widespread CDMA coverage in the sticks. Are all CDMA phones dual band these days?

I have had no problems with Cingular working in rural areas here in New England, along the East Coast and the South. They don't roam because the coverage is good enough Cingular doesn't have to roam!

PS. I agree with takeshi, being CDMA has nothing to do with roaming. You roam because your primary carrier doesn't have coverage where you are, and they have an agreement with another provider to use their network.
