My blackberry is my personal blackberry. However, I do bring it into places that do not allow camera phones.

Someone else suggested buying an unlocked 7130. On eBay those go for $400. Whereas, the 8100 is supposed to have a price around $199. So I'm supposed to pay an extra $200 for a blackberry that doesn't have the mp3 player or camera, and doesn't work 100% on T-Mobile's network. That doesn't make sense to me.

I'm probably going to hold out a little longer and wait till the 8100's come out to see exactly what T-Mobile's offerings are. Worst case I'll just have to suffer through the larger form factor of the 8700.
The prices you're quoting for the 7130c/8100's are full price/discounted price w/2 yr contract, respectively. So if you're paying full price for both, it should be priced to within $50.00 of each other, i.e....... $350-$400, or somewhere around that.

I can guess that you're thinking; if you're coming off another carrier and switching to t-mobile, you can get the 8100 at $199, but if you're an existing t-mobile customer looking to upgrade, you will only get it at a slightly higher price. Moreover, as an existing t-mobile customer, you would have to buy the 7130c outright anyway and unlock it to use it on t-mobile. Kind of sucks, but that's the cold, hard reality for you.

BTW, I really didn't mean to hijack this thread. I really was just making the point that it might not be as easy to buy an 8100 for another network as people might not get all the functionality.
If TMO has the software for the 7130, I would be shocked. Nevermind, I found it too. He wasn't kidding.

The point about not being able to use all of the functionality of the 8100 on cingular/rogers sounds like a very real possiblity. However, someone did mention that cingular would carry the 8100 at a later date, so that point is kind of moot regarding cingular. I don't know if rogers would carry the 8100 as I have not seen any comments regarding that.

As far as I know, EVERYTHING on the BlackBerry can be controlled by IT Policy. Presumably both the camera AND the mini SD slot will also be able to be controlled through IT Policy.

Actually I think it might be T-Mobile not supporting the 7130c.. Isn't there a 7130g available on rogers??

I'm trying to figure out a way to get he service books somehow. If someone on T-Mobile with a 710x can back theirs up, I'd appreciate it. Restore the .ipd file to the 7130 and hope for the best..

Tried that already from my 7100t to the 7130c, the IPPP service book doesn't carry over. So no luck in that regard. The only way you can get that service book is from TMO directly (assuming they will support it, afaik, they don't and/or won't).

That sucks.. I thought if you back up the service books, it gets all of them...

Hmm.. need to think of something else..

According to another post from Jibi, BES 4.2 addresses the camera and memory slot.

Thus, enterprise customers such as the Federal Gov't will be able to disable both the camera and memory via policy.
