Default Is the release of OS 4.2.2 for the 8100 imminent?

User Jagga made this post here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...tml#post596075

He points to blackberry article KB13163 here:
BlackBerry Search Results

Here's the relevant text:

Problem

A Bluetooth Stereo Headset is able to successfully pair with the BlackBerry Pearl smartphone. However, the music audio is unable to be heard on the headset. Instead, the music comes out via the speakerphone.

Cause
The BlackBerry Pearl 8100 smartphone is running BlackBerry Device Software version 4.2.1 or earlier. The Bluetooth Stereo Audio Profile is not supported in BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.1 and earlier.

Resolution

Upgrade the BlackBerry 8100 Pearl smartphone to BlackBerry Device Software version 4.2.2 or later. Refer to KB03621.

Notice the date this article was updated: today, July 10, 2007.

Does this mean the release of 4.2.2 for the pearl is imminent?

LOL if you keep thinking like that you will never get one because after that Curve is out, Pearl 2 will be out months after that. It will be a very long waiting game.

Do we not listen to these guys or something lol? I agree with you that hardware wise its should not work, just wondering if all of these people that say it works are not checking to make sure they have the full 4GB of space....or if it is actually working.

don't know where you received your information but at this time it most definitely hardware related (the only way that this would change is if the standard sd cards were released in a larger size, but I think that the 2GB is the limitation size of this media and the software was also updated to reflect and utilize this). The 4GB cards that are in existence, and the larger ones on the horizon, are all SDhc cards (the hc meaning high capacity). What this effectively does is it causes a higher recording compaction and in order to do this they are using a 64 bit structure for writing the data whereas the older non-hc cards utilize a 32 bit structure. As like in most other technology upgrades the hardware has the ability to be backward compatible (meaning the new slots will be able to read the older cards) but the older slots will not be able to read the newer technology. This is the reason that it is a hardware issue. From all that I have read these devices were made with the older (and cheaper) technology, hence the limitation in the card size and the fact that it is a hardware related issue.

All I know on this matter is that my 8100 running 4.2.1.101 recognizes every bit (no pun intended) of my 4 gig microSD card.

That being said, Spamdumpster is right. This isn't the issue. I'd very much like to know about 4.2.2 for the 8100 as well.

A2DP and new media player are all I want to see...I use the Today Plus theme anyway and I would imagine everything will still work fine but A2DP will be the key to 4.2.2 for me!!!! I watch the sticky everyday and pray to see Attention: Latest 8100 firmware: XXXXXXXX/4.2.2.XXX.

If you find it let us all know as I am sure you will!!

Default Has anyone tried using the 4.2.2.xxx handheld software for a different model

Just a thought: While we're all waiting for RIM to officially release OS 4.2.2 for the Pearl, has anyone tried loading the 4.2.2 device software for another model, say, the 8300, onto their Pearl??
BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.186 is available for the 8300 right now - do we know for sure that the device software is not universal (like a the OS for a PC) and that it won't work on the Pearl, even though its been released for the 8300. Maybe worth a try to get A2DP and a new media player working on the pearl......

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...E4F82F9F00E7D4

Select Blackberry Curve (8300) to get to

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.186 (Multilanguage)
Package Version: 4.2.2.186
Consisting of:
* Applications: 4.2.2.89
* Software Platform: 2.4.0.39

I would try this myself, except i'm a newbie, and I have only one phone which is often a lifeline for me, so i'd be scared of risking it. Perhaps one of the experts here could step up to the plate?
