Please help!
Hi Guys,
I have a BB 8310 which started playing up as of last night. Everything works perfectly fine except none of the buttons seem to be working, and i mean none of them including the volume control and the side buttons or the mute button. As far as i know the phone has not been dropped or been in contact with any water. I tried everything i could think of to restart the device and eventully i followed the directions here and installed a new O/S on my BB after wiping it with jl_cmder.
The wipe and the new installation went perfect but now i'm stuck at the welcome screen where i have a choice whether i want to run setup wizard and stuff but none of my buttons still work.
When i roll the trackball it moves the cursor around but it doesnt respond when i press it or any other button. i have tried everything i could think of.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

That honestly sounds like the symptoms of moisture damage. Have you looked in the battery compartment, above the battery, at the 1/8" square white sticker to see?
And sometimes, if it is not wet, it could still be moisture in only the keyboard.

just started using this. pretty functional.
One question about the memory dump, however, is this dumping the nvram or EEPROM? and where does it save the output, and what format?
Could this memory dump be useful, say in a way, to recover MEP codes?

Not sure about nvram or EEPROM but there is no output and nothing saved anywhere with JL_Cmder.

Hi Doug,
My blackberry messenger was locked by the IT policy of my company. Can it be unlocked using the JL_cmdr and then restored by the back up I created? But then, the messenger will be locked again because the back up will contain "locked blackberry messenger"? Any solution will be greatly appreciated to unlocked the blackberry messanger from you or the other experts here. Thank you all for all your support to my questions.
Best regards,
Eli

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)
You cannot get around your IT policy. You can remove the policy but when you reactivate on the BES it will come right back.

People who use JL_CMDER know this already, but I never saw a faq or anything on it, so I determined this through experimentation and am sharing.
Option "Wipe": As best as I can determine, this erases the boot block on the BB so it is unable to boot. It does not actually format the volume. Evidence for this is because after a "wipe" and an install, the apploader can still tell/see the older OS files on it and asks you whether you want to keep the 'newer' files or downgrade to your older ones or whatever.
Option "Resettofactory": This is a slightly strange one. It is named correctly, but works differently from "Wipe" above. "Wipe" is immediate. No waiting. "Resettofactory" involves a battery pull as part of the process (it tells you) and then there's a long delay while you have a screen displaying 'wiping'. What it actually wipes is your options, personal databases and installed applications then restores the device back to how it was when the OS was first installed. It does not touch the operating system itself, it will still boot, albeit as a 'new' install.
I like to run reset to factory after a wipe, and new install.. because as mentioned, the old files are still kicking around in some shape or form even if you can't see them directly.

You are correct. The wipe function doesn't really wipe it unless content protection has been enabled. Then it will wipe it and take a couple of hours to do it. The "wipe" feature just makes it ready to accept a new OS. However, after a "wipe" I haven't found that any files are "left over" since it overwrites a new OS on top of everything that was there. You'll notice that you can't save any 3rd party apps that might have been there.
