Default Latest OS: 9650 5.0.0.1242/5.0.0.732 (All Languages)

Please Login to Remove!

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1242 for the 9650 model

Package Version: 5.0.0.1242
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.732
* Software Platform: 4.2.0.334
* File name: 9650_512cmpttAMEA_PBr5.0.0_rel1242_PL4.2.0.334_A5. 0.0.732.exe
* File name: 9650_512cmpttjAllLang_PBr5.0.0_rel1242_PL4.2.0.334 _A5.0.0.732.exe

Carrier: Verizon Wireless
Download Software: http://vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry/

Instructions for installing either version on ANY carrier's 9650:
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Started running this, my signal strength has improved. However I still think my curve registered a stronger signal in my house.

Still though a solid OS and an improvement over the original. We'll probably be updated further as the days go by.

I upgraded this morning. The notice was pushed to me and I did it OTA.

Not noticing anything really. Read through the release notes on vzam.net and didn't have those troubles anyway.

All good. I guess if we don't go backwards, we should be happy.

How about VZ releasing something new this fast??? Very cool!

Best improvement I've noticed is boot time with this. I haven't timed it but I bet I've gained a full minute.

I am sure it probably is. I've never had any issues with different versions with the exception of with my Tour. The only issue there was a Sprint release did not allow Push To Talk to work. Not an issue for you.

I came from an older Beta release (500-something). I noticed boot time picked up about 4 minutes. I went from 14 minutes down to 10. Also, the browser click issue is gone now, but I think that was fixed earlier from some reports I read.

any battery life/signal improvement? My sprint 9650 gets horrid battery life. I can't make it through a work day without needing to charge.

The latest 9630 version has better signal strength than this in a non-wifi environment

The carrier doesn't matter too much, and OS from RIM is an OS RIM.

So you shouldn't have any problems loading it.

I'm aware of how to delete the vendor xml file. I was having issues finding the download for the handheld OS. That link really doesn't take you to the handheld OS download.
