Yes, a Blackberry syncs rather seamlessly with Outlook - contacts, tasks, notes, email.....

Are you talking about the Users contacts or are you talking the Exchange Global Address List (ie, Active directory list) If so, AFAIK that is not possible, you can only have your users do a manual lookup against the directory. Or have someone extract the GAL and import into each users Contacts list...which isn't pretty...

Default how should i proceed

Whats the best way to get this list of contacts to each of our users contacts folder without going to each users computer, and then letting it get pushed wirelessly to their blackberrys.

what should i do?

Are you aware that you can execute on-demand lookups in the GAL from the handheld? In the addressbook just click the wheel and "Lookup."

wasnt aware of that, but just tested and worked, thats cool, but I think the users would rather have the contacts in their address book automatically, know what i mean?

thanks though, i will mention this now to see if it will work!!

You'd have to e-mail it to everyone with some import instructions and you'd have to do that over and over again as it's updated. It doesn't scale well as you can guess.

Microsoft has a free add on called Outlook PCS that will sync contact public folders to user's personal folders, which then can be wirelessly synced to your user's BBs.

We're using it with Outlook 2K & 2K3 and so far, so good. The drawbacks are that it's a manual sync (the user has to initiate from a button on a new toolbar within Outlook), it only works with contact folders, has to be installed on each user's computer, and any changes user's make to the synced record in their personal contacts is overwritten the next time they sync.

The advantages are that the sync is one way - the user's can't overwrite public folder information, each user can individually choose which folders they want to sync, it's stable, has a small footprint, and as soon as records start syncing to the personal folder they start to get synced out to the BB wirelessly.

So, you could copy the contacts that you imported to a public folder, then use this app to get them to individual user's copy of Outlook, then out to their BBs.

Hope that helps & Ciao

Hey,

I'm using Outlook 2K3, but am using Office 2K on everything else. Have lots of users on Outlook 2K with the app with no problems.

As far as that error goes, I'm not sure why you'd be getting that. I'll do some looking around and will post back if I find anything specific to the PCS app.

Ciao

Hey bdepew,

Did a quick search and this link may be helpful. Go to the bottom of the page, scroll up, and you'll see info on what it sounds like your problem is. The solution involves a reg hack, so you may want to look further before trying...

Ciao

There used to be an option to do this on Desktop Manager 3.6
If you go to backup and restore, then advanced options, you could click on file and see an option to import addresses i believe.
This would allow you to import from the GAL or a "recipients" list from your exchange server. sync this to a public folder that everyone has access to and they can later choose that public folder as a secondary contact sync (not primary as contacts will get mixed in and it gets messy fast)

sadly this disappeared with 4.0 and i've been searching around for a replacement.
you can downgrade one computer that you dont use to 3.6 and run this process weekly i guess, I tried this on my everyday computer and got tired of switching back to 4.0 to resync and be able to send/receive emails again.
