I recently bought a navy, unbranded case for my 8700g from ebay for £29.99. Took about ten minutes to change and my BlackBerry looks brand new again. Can't post links yet but the ebay username was "ask.david". Hope this is helpful.

I just found a guy on ebay with 8707v, 8700v and 8700g housings.

Anybody know which one of these would best fit an 8700c?

Hi S.Howard, I saw that you have successfully switched housings. How did you get the speakerphone internal speaker out of the old back housing - does it just pull out or is there something else you have to do?

Thanks,
Aston

When I transferred mine - it was quite simple they both simply slide out of the old housing and into the new. Once the housing is put together the contacts are automatically aligned.

I'd like to know this as well. I'd like to put the 8707 Vodaphone housing on my 8700r. I understand the 8700r/8700c keypads line up perfectly when interchanged but now i'm wondering if that is the same case when placing a 8707 housing on.

Also, does anyone know where to get the 8707 battery door cover? seems like the cases only have the front/back housing and not the door cover!

Default 8700c housing replacement

i need to replace the housing on 8700c (cingular). would a 8700v (verizon) housing work on the 8700c? Would any modifications be required?

I have a Blackberry 8700g from Tmobile. I really really would prefer the 8707v or even the 8700v housing on the phone. I know some people on this thread have complained about their keyboards not fitting other models. My question is will my keyboard fit either the 8707e or the 8700v??

yes it will!

I did this switch from my 8700g to the new vodafone 8700v case and it fit.

The only thing is you have to be extremely careful with dust getting inside the screen area. Also make sure you DO NOT break any clips opening it up, other than that it takes less than 20 minutes to do the switch.

Another tip is wear rubber latex lab gloves, because finger prints will get on the inside of the screen no matter how careful you are. And it sucks to put it all back together and then realize that you have prints and dust on the underside of the screen.

old case off.

new case before going on...purchased for $17.00 USD off a Hong Kong seller on eBay.

From the information I have read, the key is the keyboards.

Compatible models:
1. 8703e, 8700g, 8700v
2. 8700c, 8700r

check it out boys!!

Rogers 8700r -> Vodaphone 8707v

first one done as far as i know ;)

if you're going to do the swap keep in mind that the t6 screws that RIM uses are CHEAP AS HELL! the heads strip VERY, VERY, VERY EASILY!! be careful as I stripped a few of the heads but was able to recover, ironically, with a 1.5 HEX key.

you're 1/2 correct I THINK. i suspect, if you have the keyboard as well it should line up with the circuit board underneath. it would be nice if someone attempted this to clarify though.

yes, this is assuming you only have one keyboard.

the keyboards will not line up in all cases. rim uses different over lays (white keyboard taped on pcb) for different housings.

now in most cases you may get a lil stiff keypad but that depends. if you replace a c housing with a g you will get a lil bit of a stiff keypad, in most cases very usable and very rarley its too stiff.

i kno this because i worked at rim and remember if someone puts on a wrong overlay on a certain keypad shape the keys will become stiff.

now if you can get an overlay then you are truly set because it is the only difference. however i replaced 8700c with 8707v and no problems at all.

just so you guys know if you get stiff keypads this is the reason.

^ mike, did you run into problems with stripping the heads of the T6 screws?

nah i had no problems with stripping, could be the screwdriver you used. some are not as good i had a problem with one before that would do that. i even had to reopen my unit 3 times because everytime i wouldnt get the dust of the screen completly.

I've taken apart a number of Blackberries including the 6230, 7230, 7290 (multiple), and 8700c (multiple) and never had problems with the T6 screws. I suggest getting a better T6 driver as well as making sure that none of your screws are T7. My new 8700c has one T5 screw.
