Question Zen for Macintosh Users

Please Login to Remove!

Apologies if this is covered somewhere, but how would a Mac user that is interested in making minor mods—like installing the Zen theme, for instance—go about accessing the files that are stored on the PC?

Many thanks in advance, J

Default zen

the zen theme is so great. thanks seattle. but i got a question. right now im guessing the lag i have now is from the 9 or so factory themes that i can't delete using the clickwheel. does anyone know of a javaloader tutorial? I want to get rid of all other themes excep for the cingular factory one. the look is great but its not blazing fast like it used to be

I don't think having the themes in there should affect the overall speed. Do a rest (remove/reinsert battery after 30 secs) and see if that speeds it back up.

You can't. That's why I have a cheap Dell laptop I got for use with BB apps. I'm a die-hard Mac user, but I gotta be able to utilize the Desktop Manager on a PC.

I have the same problem if it's any consolation - battery life is much shorter than before I changed the OS. I guess there's no way of going back?

Did you install the 8700 software from the disk in the box?

HI I am trying to do your installation to the letter as you described. I got up to Step 3, and deleted Vendor.xml... then when I get to Step 4 (6. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.1.0.284_P2.0.0.120 and rename BlackBerry.alx to BlackBerry.alx.old) I cannot find the SHARED folder inside of the Blackberry folder that is inside RIM Folder? Can you enlighten me? Thanks.

You are missing your handheld OS on your PC.

Download it from your carrier's web site. Install it and try again.

The start the Zen process over again.

You'll see the files you need now that you've installed them.

I am ALMOST there but have run across another problem....

I saw the shared folder... renamed the alx file to alx.old adn then went and zipped the zip file to the shared folder (one thing I noticed was that it was X...X... version 90 at the end and then when i zipped the new folder that is listed in the instructions it created another folder with version 120 at the end (do you get what I am saying) --

Then so I load it into the Desktop (takes 10 seconds not 20 mins!) and i get the error message saying

The Application Browser cannot be loaded because it requires the following applications that are not available
net.rim.blackberry.xml

I ALMOST THERE!! HELP!

I have a white screen with three items listed... I now have nothing on blackberry and nothing on the desktop software.

Am I screwed? Do I need to take it back to Cingular?

It sounds like you need to re-install your handheld's OS.

What does the step of deleting or renaming the vendor.xml file accomplish? Does it merely unlock the device so that it can use themes like zen, orange, etc.?

everything was going smoothly but during the upgrade through desktop manager the computer gives the disconnect sound when it reaches the "Connect to the loader ROM" and then I get "unable to complete the loading operation" "Unspecified error encountered A:0x00000001"

Any ideas???
