Default Unlocking VZW Tour

Please Login to Remove!

I called VZW today and requested the unlock code for my device. They said no. This hasn't happened before, when I was on TMo. Normally, I would just call and request the unlock code, and they would give it to me, no issues. Why is VZW being difficult about this? I was under the understanding that I am entitled to the code if I request it, since it's my phone. I've been a customer since July.

Can anyone give me insight on how I get my phone unlocked?

So they agreed to give me the unlock code. The previous rep was just rude.

So my question now is, unlocking the device voids my warranty. What does this mean? Is this something I want to do? Does it matter? I appreciate the help!

Verizon being Verizon.
They don't have to provide the code to you. Keep calling back until you get a rep who will do it for you.
If you keep striking out, go to an unlock provider for a code. http://www.gsmphonesource.com has always been helpful for me.

Newbie question as I haven't played around with unlocking BB's and I just won an unlock code with ExpressUnlockcode.com....the OP stated that it would void your warranty....really?...is that true?

It might void your warranty. Check with your carrier.

My experience with unlocking VZW phones:

Few CSR's know the VZW rules, as working on GSM phones is relatively new / rare for them. You should speak to somebody in their international department who has experience with GSM.

I was told they will only provide an unlock code every 6 months. It will also depend to a certain extent on your customer profile: payment history, time as a customer, etc.

It will not void your warranty. It is a native function of the phone to use whatever SIM is in there. It is the carrier that locks it down, not RIM.
