Hi. I just upgraded from an 8110 Pearl and an 8300 Curve to the 8900. My brand new 8900 is running OS 4.6.1.250. I am not very happy with this OS because of the volume. This 8900 has undeniably, noticeably lower volume than my 8110 and 8300. :(

I want to know specifically about music on headphones. The phone is quieter too, and the loudspeaker just plain sucks, but the phone is audible and I don't care much about the loudspeaker. I only care about listening to music on headphones. Quality on headphones is OK, but I certainly need more volume, especially after being used to the nice sound quality of my previous Berries. I also noticed something wrong with the original 8900 headphone set. I think it sounds somewhat muffled. I'm using the 8300 headset, it sounds better. But it can't fix the low volume.

There are several other minor sound issues that I am omitting for the sake of brevity and objectivity.

Can someone here recommend an OS version that will offer decent media application volume?

Note: I am not interested in the 5.0 series. I don't like the volume in the OS 4.6.1.250, but at least it's rock solid, and I refuse to use beta, unstable, glitchy firmware.

I don't think this is an OS problem as much as a physical hardware "problem". Your comparing phones, they do not use the same hardware/technology as old phones, I've noticed the same thing, but they use new and different hardware for new phones so you can't expect it to be the same, unfortunately.

I had an old curve (8310) and also noticed that the vibrate/volume is much louder.
But that's the swap you make for new technology, no?

I guess try and update the OS, but I highly doubt that will fix your "problem".

I've seen the low volume problem both in the 8300 then in the 8110. Both were fixed by later OS releases. RIM can probably fix it in the 8900, too.

For me it was the other way around. From upgrading to the 8900 from the 8300 the sound quality/volume is much better. With the volume turned down to 1 bar its very clear and pretty loud still. The only flaw i think is where they placed the speaker on the back, usually people don't lay their phones screen down on the surface but in this case you have to, to prevent the sound from being muffled.

Agreed, I feel the sound is much sharper on the 8900. As for speaker, I tend to only use when I'm driving (try and avoid a ticket) and I merely end up just turning the phone around.

The speaker on my 8900 is very loud. I think that it may be a hardware issue. This is my first BB so i have no other experience from which to elaborate on.
