Default A Torch 9860 owner needs help from 9800 owners :(

Please Login to Remove!

hey guys,

so recently i picked up the torch 9860 straight from Rim, and shortly after i discovered that more than half of the apps that i regularly used on my torch 9800 do not work on this pone. AppWorld simply says that this app is "not supported on this device".

i have a major problem with this because i bought this phone specifically for the big screen, but when news apps like Variety, Digital Journal, pcmag, Canadian business, ect and ect...do not work, i will have to sell this phone unless you guys help me.

was wondering if you guys can rip the .cod and .jad files from ur torches for a few apps that i cannot live without. i managed to sideload a few like Stitcher, Slacker, TD Canada (bank), WeatherEye from various forums and blogs, but there are a few i cannot find files for.

and they are....

Variety
Digital Journal
Ad Age
Dictionary.com App
AutoTrader.ca App
RedOrbit
Realtor.ca

That's it.
would be amazing if some peeps could rip em and upload em here in like zip files or whatever.
OR email me the to [email address]

thanx a bunch!

Apps are generally OS and device specific. You should contact the developer for each app to see if they are compatible with your device or when a compatible version will be released.

Both are very similar and use the same processor and OS so a 9810 app might work.

i've already contacted both Handmark and Polar the two developers of the majority of my missing apps and i didn't get a response back, leaving me to believe that no updates are coming. I loaded 9800, 9810 and even 9550 apps (AP NEWS) on my 9860, and they work perfectly fine so i don't understand why they've been blocked. it's a disaster and if by next week they are not available, i'm selling this 9860 and picking up the 9380, that's it. I'm very disappointed by this product not only because of it's poor battery life, but the app thing just killed it for me.

I think the 9550 app you mention isn't really an app, but just calls the browser with a specific URL, which is probably why it works. In general, trying to load real apps from a BlackBerry with a different OS, different screen resolution, etc is a really bad idea, likely to cause problems.

no no, it's an app. i have tree storm apps. ap news v2.5.5 (346k), dictionary app v1.4 (400k) and stitcher v 1.413264 (560k). Dictionary.com is only one that's causing me slight problems but the rest work fine just look wrong. kind of like when you put an iphone app onto the ipad. they're like half the screen but only the storm apps, the torch apps are hundred percent. that's why i have a problem wirth this. if they wouldn't work then i'd understand, but they work and look 100 percent so there 's no need for this nonsence. not 1 reason outside of rims sloppyness and it's getting to me.

Any of the BB's that are on OS7 won't run your apps. The BB 9380 is an OS7 device. You will have to buy a OS6 device old school phone like the 9780 BOLD, or something that came out when the 9780 did for your apps to work.

That's one thing you need you prepare yourself for before you upgrade your device in the future. Just remember to look before you jump!

Hi,

I think you asked why your 9860 did not load or be able to use apps from your 9800.
The reason may be that the 9800 Torch is OS6, and the new 9860 Torch is OS7. I had that trouble with my Torch II 9810 which is on the OS7 . I was told we have to wait until the app developers re-tool their apps to the OS 7.System..There are , however, many apps for the OS 7 that can be used for your new 9860 Blackberry! .Hope this helps.
