You posted yesterday around 4:00pm that you ordered, and prior to the timestamp on my reply it's in your hands. That's pretty good.

Thanks a lot for the heads up, I've been waiting for this and even signed up on their 8830 pre-launch page but never got an email about it. I was able to order a phone late yesterday afternoon by setting up a new business account at this phone number - 800 526 1160. (the phone number listed above seemed to be for general public sales who tried to tell me it wasn't available yet)

I you don't already have a siness account they need a valid company Tax ID to set one up and also charged a $100 deposit that's supposed to be refunded after the first 10 months of service. Phone was $199 with a $50 rebate of some kind credit against the first month's bill (not a mail in rebate.)

The 199.99 price is available to any sprint business account. The phone is one of there business select devices. I'm not sure on the upgrade pricing.....

I ordered mine yesterday and received it today.

Let me know if anyone needs any help with ordering (mikec@eeico.com) I'm a authorized Sprint/Nextel Rep.

That is true. If you have the International data plan, you also have to pay $15 for PAM.

If you get the US data plan, like Sprint's other devices have, PAM is included.

I know, I was a bit amazed that it got here as fast as it did!

Got it set up and running with most of my programs. The biggest deal was swapping numbers between the new 8830 and my old 8703, but after a few hours, Sprint was able to provision the new device. I had to sweet talk our IT department to let me back on to the BES as just a couple of weeks ago a new security policy was set in place blocking any privately purchased BBs from our network. So, all in all, I'm good to go.

A few observations (most have been observed on other variants of the 88xx):
1. The battery cover is very hard to remove (imagine that!)
2. No creaking sides, not yet at least
3. Speaker volume on some ringers is very low
4. Weak vibration
5. Keyboard is fine, not any better or worse than the 8703
6. Keyboard backlight is white, not blue like VZW's 8830 - very legible in low light conditions
7. Beautiful screen
8. Has a good heft to it (not sure if the two radio antennae make it heavier than the it's GSM-only brethren)
9. TeleNav 4.7 loads without any error, but I haven't tried it yet. This is the 8703 version. I may hold off until the proper version is released.

Well, so far, so good. I'm pretty happy so far.

Can you tell us how much memory (file free) you have on the device... There has been report of memory issues with the Verizon and Bell 8830... Just curious.

Right now, it's looking like 11558244 bytes free out 47841280. I had the memory leak issue on the Pearl that I had for a couple of weeks when I switched over to Cingular. I hope the 8830 doesn't suffer from the same issue because that was kind of annoying. I'll keep an eye on it the next few days.

Thanks for the info. I'll be ordering my Sprint 8830 Thursday and cancelling my Verizon account and returning their crippled 8830. (Fortunately I am still in my first 30 days with Verizon so I can cancel without the big cancellation fee)

Default YEAH!!! It is out!

Well I am glad it is out....I was going to get a new line but I am currntly having alot of issues with my 7130e and they were suggesting to move to the 8703 or 8830 so maybe I can get it due to my issues. If not will order it this weekend.

What the differences between the 8703 and the 8830??
Besides being the World phone (SIM card for GSM).

Has anyone been able to do an upgrade for the 199 price? Today I was told by SPRINT CSR the price would be 299 for just an upgrade (w/ a 2yr plan) or I can add a new line to my account and get the 199 price.

I am not on a business account as others have mentioned so I do not fall into that category. I don't want to add a line b/c we have four phones on the account and have an interst in obtaing two 8830's

Thanks

It's $299 and you get a $100 mail-in rebate on top of that. So you have to pay $299+tax up front and will get $100 back after sending in the right paperwork and waiting 6-14 weeks.

I asked that and was told 399 up front then I would get the 100 rebate for total cost of 299. Based on what you are saying maybe I will call them again.

If you go to the Sprint site and order it there, you see the discount and rebate. Note: This is for New service and 2yr agreement. If you're already a Sprint customer, the price may be different.
