Default Telenav vs. VZNav

Please Login to Remove!

I'm wondering if TeleNav is better or worse than VZNav. (I know that TeleNav requires a GPS puck.) They have the same monthly rate for Verizon. I have a Pearl and it isn't listed on the TeleNav site, but I can't think of why it wouldn't work on the 8130.

If I got the puck for TeleNav, I'd have it for BBMaps also, I guess. The roads in BBMaps are more up to date in my area than the roads in VZNav if you can believe that!

Thanks,
Bruce

From lots of complaints on the forums, it appears that VZN does not know how to keep the backlight on (and this is Verizon's own program!!!) TeleNav alows the backlight to stay on forever if desired.

TeleNav also has real time traffic updates and rerouting, and it actually works (if you're on a major highway.)

Since TeleNav uses only the puck, it can't assist the GPS with cell tower triangulation. The downside of this is that you must be able to see the satellites. VZN apparently will approximate your location if the internal GPS is blocked from a view of any GPS sats. By the way, my Holux GPSlim 240 works very well in my pocket in the car, or even in my house, but not in any office buildings.
