That is one sexy device. I can't wait to see this on a CDMA carrier for EVDO support. My guess is that it will be a lot sooner than what we've usually come to expect. Fall/Winter this year.

With the wifi enabled phones, has anyone heard of the technology that would allow you to use the wifi signal that is in your house/office to connect phone calls (like a wireless VOIP) and then seamlessly transfer to a cell tower when you leave or visa versa? I heard something about it for t-mobile and I was wondering if anyone had any new info on it...

we're testing the 8820 with at&t right now. having some issues with wifi intermittently dropping and reconnecting.

There is a reason why the 8xxx series has a large battery. RIM's co-CEO admitted himself that the larger battery was "to prepare for GPS and 'other features' that are going to be inside the product."

That said, there is a high probability that some of the early released 8xxx series devices have WiFi radios intact, just disabled via chipset firmware. I base this statement on a recent conversation with a couple of birds who flew in from from Waterloo and who will remain nameless.

Wireless network carriers don't really want WiFi; I mean, why would they? It would allow their customers to take them out of the equation and use their own wireless network to send/receive data and take advantage of VOIP whenever they are in range of a WiFi network. So as a result, some carriers have intentionally shunned WiFi and/or disabled it. Similar to certain carriers disabling GPS, file transfers via Bluetooth, and network locking their devices. It's all about protecting revenue.
