Do you have a "Blackberry Data Plan?" If you only have a regular cell phone data plan you won't get a browser. You can't download programs through Opera. It require the standard browser.

That's correct.

Maybe. Opera seems to work on some BlackBerry devices with the correct APN settings, and may allow you to browse some websites. I don't know what this type of setup will do to your wireless bill regarding incurring data charges.

You're far better off getting a Blackberry Data Plan if you have a BlackBerry. It's not that expensive and will at least allow you to take advantage of the features of the device you already paid for.

What I meant was that I am able to use opera to view pretty much every webpage ive tried going to, so I do have somewhat of a data plan, but I just need the blackberry browser to download the gmail app..

You need a Blackberry Data Plan for this... not "somewhat of a data plan".
Besides your problem obtaining the application... you wouldn't be able to use it without a BlackBerry Data Plan anyway.
The GMail app itself requires a Blackberry Data Plan.
