I was just playing around with my friends 8830 and noticed the track ball felt all solid and smooth compared to my 8130.Is the shiny ring around the ball supposed to move at all? is there supposed to be any "play" in the track ball? anyone els notice this or do i have a lemon?

Same difference here in my 8800 and new 8310. The trackball feels looser, however the "play" in it has not alarmed me. Just looser, works great.

Does the ring around the ball (that sounds weird) move on yours as well?

As a matter of fact if i shake it, it rattles. sounds "cheap".

No, it does not.
You know what I feel is the difference is this: I am used to the 8700 and more recently the 8800, both very solid, heavy devices. I have used a 7100 and 8100 as well, but lesser so.

The Curve is lighter (and smaller) like a 8100 and 7100. Hence, when I pick it up, it feels less solid compared to the 8800.

Now, if I go pick up other cellphones, etc., the Curve still feels solid in comparison. Razr, Samsung, Nokias, etc.

My opinion.

Not from mine, and I certainly can't hear yours!

You are on a 8130, mine is a 8310. Duh me, I just re-read your first post.

Nevertheless--my advice would be to drop by a different VZW store and look at one. Check the display model and ask to see one in a box. If it feels different and more solid, return yours.

What color is yours?

I have a 8830 and was thinking of getting the 8130 for the picture/video capabilities I have missed since converting over to Blackberry, the store model did feel cheap, the trackball was definately loose, but I chalked that up to it being a well used demo. Also, OS 4.3 seems to be very buggy for the 15 or so minutes I played with it. I am still contemplating on getting it based on form factor and camera alone. But I wonder if I will type on it less because of the lack of qwerty.

Don't get me wrong i still love my 8130. Coming from a 7130 the camera is great to have. The video could be a little more user friendly. The 4.3 is a little buggy but not to bad. The sure type is great once you get used to it(which should take only a couple of days) i will never go back to a full keyboard again.

I just got my personal Sprint 8130 (I have a Sprint 8830 for work).

I do see a little bit of movement on the ring around the trackball...just the slightest bit. The trackball itself feels the same as my 8830 (perhaps a little stiffer since I haven't really used it much in the last 45 minutes since I opened the box).

I do NOT hear any sort of rattle when I shake it....seems solid to me.

And I LOOOOOOVEEEE the 'L' theme!!

No rattle in mine at all...trackball feels fine. My first BB, so no previous comparisons.

Qberry,

I think the reason yours is moving and rattling is most likely the Internal Retaining clip. My guess is that it is not seated correctly allowing the whole assembly to move and rattle. The External chrome ring is holding it in place but underneath is another.

well I picked up my new 8130 and the track ball is secure, but now i'm noticing another issue. The first time it vibrates it feels very weak like there is alot of stress on the vibrator then by the second and third time it is working normaly like it had to wam up or something. Should i be concerned about this and swap it out for yet another one? please help my wife thinks i need mental help !(i'm starting to belive her)

Thank you Q. You have made me laugh this morning. I needed to.

Give it a few days, this week. You have time to return it. See if it persists.

Dammit...if you've been seeing my wife (and it sure sounds like her) I'm gonna be very upset!

She thinks I'm insane as well...but we (Pearl and I) try to stay above petty name calling... ;)

Don't worry Danabw, although I'm sure your wife is very nice you don't have to worry. As long as i have my pearl to keep me busy she's safe from me(besides I already have someone telling to put that damn thing away all the time, why would I want to hang around another?) Anyone know of a support group that we can get these insane spouses into?
