Hello Everyone,

Q for all BES admins ... I'm running BES 4.05 With Exchange 2003 in a relatively large enviornment (20,000+ Exchange users and 600+ BB users).

In my setup we only support the Base PDA functionality (no 3rd party sw on devices) and the newer versions of Desktop have features that we don't want to support (do you want to support you Exec's MP3 collection ;). The only reason we install desktop manager is for USB charging support.

Is anyone aware of a way to install ONLY the Blackberry Device Manager (no desktop manager or just blackberry USB driver for charging suport.

Unless something's changed, you need to grab RimUsb.sys & RimUsbNt.inf from the CD. I'm sure someone else will chime in, but I believe that when you connect the device to the client's, you'll need to browse to one of these for the software install part.

In addition, I think this may have been covered before; you might be able to find something by searching for something like charging without desktop manager.

You can also grab the USB drivers from Microsoft update.
Also during the Desktop Manager installation, you can specify just the handheld manager software to be installed...excluding the Desktop Manager.

Just thought I would also add my two pence worth.

If your users are power users or lower they will not be able to install drivers. What you will need to do after you have copied the 2 files to c:\windows\system32 is to plug a blackberry in each usb adapter as an administrator. Once this is done the blackberry will charge.

I'm going to take a look at the .inf & DLL trick. If all is well I'll look at pushing it out via AD group policy (love that thing;) to all of my BB users.

Out of curiosity are any BES users out there running BES 4.1.x (upgrading soon I hope) with the BES MGMT database on SQL Server 2005 x64? I remember hearing of some initial issues, just wondering what everyone's experiences with it has been like (SQL x64 and BES).

Just an FYI. I just did this off of MS update....worked like a charm. This forum is great!
