Try my suggestion about the USB settings in Device Manager. Go to device manager >Universal Serial Bus controllers >and for each instance of USB Root HUB >Power Management >uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this devie to save power." This bit me several times in the beginning before I knew about it!

It was going through a hub. I'll definitely do that though. Back up and running now. This new OS is pretty cool so far. Calls do sound much clearer. Thanks for the help!

That'll do it! BB's, DM and hubs = bad combination. Best to always connect it directly. I thought I was going to get a new BB....oh well!

Just wanted to chime in on my upgrade of the OS.
Was using the version that originaly came with the BB when I got it from Cingular about a year ago.
Upgrade was simple and easy (no need to delete the vendor.alx file, since I have an 8700c)
I always used the stock cingular theme, as liked none of the other "stock" themes. The stock Cingular theme didn't have an SMS folder, which annoyed me, and caused me to miss SMSs for weeks at a time.
All I can say is the BB Dimension Zen is great, and it has a seperate SMS mailbox. YAY. I also like the fact that I now know WHICH mailbox has new mail, instread of needing to check each box when I see that there are new messages to know which account got the e-mail.
I haven't yet used the phone, BT, or Speakerphone yet, but Sunday is coming, and I am sure I will have the chance then.

OS Upgrade Process
Is this the basic steps to working an OS upgrade to .529:
1. Download and install Desktop client 4.2.
2. Backup the device using Desktop 4.2
3. Download and then execute the device package.
4. Perfrom Enterprise activation once the new OS is installed.
5. restore from the backup.
6. reboot the device for good measure.

That's odd. SMS should arrive in Messages.

Step 1 isn't required. You can use older versions of Desktop Manager.
Step 4 applies to BES users only.
Steps 2 & 6 area always a good ideas.

After trying the new OS, I noticed that I was dropping a lot of calls. Also, I noticed that the call quality wasn't very good. Anyone else notice this?? I downgraded to my last OS and it cleared up all my problems.

Do you have an actual "Blackberry Data Plan?" No BB data plan, no browser. Other cell phone data plans will NOT work.

updated it accordingly: i saw something about removing some file(s) and such stuff, so my other question here is: do i install the update as it is on blackberry site or i have to edit something to keep my device unlocked after the update is done?

I was running Telstra on Cingular 8700c and ran the update without changes or mods.
Everything went well and OS is running smoothly on two devices.
Negative message count is fixed in Zen
Lost BB Messenger, both O2 themes and Orange themes, as well as Ramble settings.
Vodaphone and Vodaphone Today themes remained and functioning.
Passwords, Memos and Google maps came over.
No adverse issues so far.

OK, so I deleted the vendor.xml and removed all of the vendor id's out of the Blackberry.alx file, and unlocked all of the Themes.
I now have
BB Dimension-List
BB Dimension-Today
BB Dimension-Zen
BB Dimension-Icon
BB Insight-List
BB Insight-Icon
Bell
Cingular
O2-Icon
O2-List
Orange
Smoothie
Sprint (BB Dimension-Icon Copy)
Verizon
Vodaphone (Red/Grey)
Vodaphone
Vodaphone Today
Wave-Icon
Wave-List
Any theme that does not unlock, I got free from RIM. None of these are Plazmics.

Seriously - what do you do with those many themes loaded?! Do you switch to a new theme every week or something? Just curious...

You got a great point... since I got zen theme a long time ago, I just couldn't use any other theme, I just love my zen theme. Every time I try other themes, I end up going back to Zen the same day lol.

You don't need to configure anything. The service books which essentially configure and make the browser icons appear will automatically be pushed to your Blackberry if you have a Blackberry data plan and if IT policy (if applicable) doesn't restrict browser use. If you have a data plan and you're missing your browsers and your company isn't restricting browser use then you need to resend the service books or call your carrier to have them do this for you.
