Default Content Protection??

Please Login to Remove!

Not sure if I understand the whole content protection feature. I have the password feature on, and if my blackberry is stolen, then the thief has 10 attempts to get the password right before the data is erased. If the "content protection" encryption is turned on then it encrypts the data but still thief would need the password to access the data, so what's the point in having the "content protection" feature turned on??...seems like an unnecessary step.

Content protection encrypts your data so the only way it can be accessed is to be decrypted with your password.

The main advantage of this is if the handheld is lost/stolen, and when the user enters the password incorrectly 10 times, it does a secure wipe which can take several hours (wipe that makes recovery of your data impossible, even by data recovery experts.).

Most people do not need it, but any high security organization (military, top secret info on it, etc.) would use it.

Seems to me that content protection is a fairly good idea to protect data that is somehow copied into a reader from a password protected stolen device. I think it also pretty much blocks data recovery companies from accessing the data. That feature must drive the cops crazy.

What effect does content protection have on your backed up ipd files? are they protected as well? If not, whats the point of having a super secure BlackBerry if the backup files it creates are not secure?
