Default Which Blackberry for a newbie?

Please Login to Remove!

hi all.

i am thinking about getting a blackberry but i dont know which one to get. i dont go on the internet much now. only really to check my emails now and then. i want a phone with a qwerty keyboard so i thought of getting a blackberry.

i would like to have a camera that i could take the odd photo now and then but its not a big thing.

the blackberrys i am interested in are:

8520
9300
9700

i dont need it to do many things but good battery life, call quality and to be able to check my emails now and then would be good.

i like the 8520 because its cheap.
i like the 9300 because it looks better and has faster internet.
i like the 9700 because it has better battery life and a better camera.

if i got the 8520 i would update it to the os 5. does the os 5 improve the boot up time and battery life?

which one would be better for me?

any help would be great.

thanks

I had the 8520 and 9700 both had very good battery life for me a day at least with a full charge. The one thing I liked and still miss about the 8520 were the media keys on top :(. If I had to choose I would probably go with the 9700 just because it's newer.

The 8520 is an entry level device which means it is slower and has fewer features.

Go to the carriers store or retailer and try all. I would get the one that fits your budget and you like. Keep in mind the newer ones offer the ability to support some future applications.

hi guys. i have been looking around and i can get a brand new 8520 for about £110 a brand new 9300 for about £150. the 9700 i can get from ebay for about £130.

i only have a maxium budget of £160. i am thinking about going for the 8520 as this is my first blackberry and i dont need the fast internet or other features that the other two have.

what is the 8520 like on the os5. is the battery life better?

which one would be best for a newbie to blackberry. i have been used to bada and android.

Let's take a step back.
Why do you want a BlackBerry?
What are your requirements?

Have you checked out the BlackBerry Data Plans that you will need to use e-mail, Facebook and other programs?

Depending on the country in which you live, you will be required to have a data plan on your device, and you will need it if you wish to ever desire to check e-mail.

the 9630 was prone to trackball problems. Later models using the trackpad instead of the trackball were huge improvements. Also, the 9630 did not have WiFi. The 9700 does have it.

thanks for all the advice guys. i went to the carphonewarehouse to have a look at the phones. the sales person was really good. i choose the 9300 as it seam to fit what i wanted very well. after using it for half a day it is really good and does everything i want it to.

the only down side was my fault. i was trying to free up some space and moved the default ringtones and wallpapers. i then decided to try and put them back but the phone doesnt read them now. it says the file is not supported.

does any one know how i could get the default ringtones and wallpapers back. i dont really want to do a factory reset as it is running really well at the moment. its running os 6.

thanks again for all your help.

Normally you would have to restore your operating system. Use Desktop Manager on a pc, backup your data, and reinstall the os.

i have had the blackberry 9300 for a while now and this is what i have found.

it is a good little phone if you have a data plan. i can only use facbook and twitter when i use the wifi which is no good.

another thing is the signal strength keeps cutting out. i went away and didnt get my texts until i got back two days latter. i am on t-mobile and i have to change the network all the time.

if you are on another network like orange or vodafone and have a data plan then this would be a good phone. but for me its not so good.

i still have it but i am using the sony ericsson play at the moment as i am on the internet alot now a days.

i have been thinking of trading the blackberry in for something else like the nokia c3 or the htc chacha.

i will keep you all informed. thanks for all your great advice.

Hope everything works out for you. Though BlackBerry devices do work best when you have a BB Data Plan as well.
