Thumbs up New Blackberry 8900 v5.0.0.90 (Platform 4.3.0.23)

Please Login to Remove!

I have just received my Blackberry 8900 today from O2 directly.
Surprise surprise, the above mention OS is installed.
It works fantastic, now looking for some nice apps to install and run.
Does anybody know any good apps for this OS version?
Your help is much appreciated.

Apps are in the Aftermarket section.

But since JDE 5.0 which is used to build 5.0 OS apps was just released last week, don't expect to see much, however many of the old apps should work as well.

But, very cool news that it shipped with OS 5.0.

The main reason I'm not running 5.0 on my 8900 is that many of the apps I use every day don't work on 5.0. I'm skeptical, as well, that the device came with OS 5.0.

Yeah - me too. The Blackberry site shows 4.6.1.199 as the posted device OS version for the 8900 on O2.

Could have been a remanufactured turn-in device, on which the previous use loaded 5.0, and O2 didn't wipe and reload the OS.

It has happened.

When will RIM release OS 5.0 for 8900 by the way?

If a brand new blackberry has actually been released with OS 5.0 installed, then RIM has released it. It just hasn't been located yet by users of this site.

All OS's installed by the carriers come from RIM.

A couple of different OS 5.0 versions for the 8900 and 9000 have been leaked and floating around for quite some time now.

i bet someone installed 5.0 in the phone, it didnt work right so they panicked because they could downgrade so the took it in to replace it with a new one. no this guy got stuck with until he has issues with it and is gonna replace it for a new one. the cycle of BB 5.0 life.

But if they're only leaked, then are they considered Beta? I know you don't post anything here that isn't an official release but guess I may be fuzzy on the difference between a Beta and leaked software. Explanations welcome.

"Leaked" = Beta.

The term comes form someone who has proprietary access to the Beta version leaking it to the public.

Okay. Thanks. That's what I thought but JSanders answer above made me think maybe I was wrong. (Although re-reading it now, I'm not sure why.)

The beta term is usually used for software in testing stages before its officially released. Leaked beta software is common but untrustworthy. <---- did i just make that word up or is it a real word? im too lazy to do spell check.

Second one with the same OS from O2 UK as well. My partner received hers yesterday. I need an application that lets me take screenshots and I shall post some photos.

Yes, I do not like the fact that some applications do not load but, this changes constantly. Yesterday I wasn't able to load applications that today are simply fine ;)

5.0 is a deal breaker for me, since the exceptions and stuff have been removed
