Default no 8900 because no 3g

Please Login to Remove!

I want a 8900, but don't really want to compromise on the 2g data speeds, so think I'm going to go for the iphone instead.

Real shame because I prefer the look and feel of the 8900 over the touch screen on the iphone.

what are the browsing speeds like on the 8900 is there significant difference than browsing on the 3g iphone?

I have both the Bold and 8900. You definitely can notice the browsing speeds (Bold is much faster). The other kicker is that T-Mobile has a lousy footprint. This weekend I spend half my time in GPRS coverage while my Bold had full 3G.

RIM has optimized its services for 2G. 3G isn't totally necessary unless you want simultaneous data and voice. And if you're using Opera Mini, 3G isn't really going to make a difference with browsing.

I really agree with you on this. I have a Storm on T-Mobile and one on Verizon. Browsing speed and downloads are about equal speed.

oh right

I went to a shop today, and they had a 8900 but it wasn't on and working so couldnt try it, thats why I'm on here.

just want to know if I get a 8900 will I regret it because the 2g won't perform like the i-phones 3g will

I would get a blackberry bold, but its just to bulky for me

I would make sure there is 3g where you will be using your iPhone. Every location doesn't have it (yet). No 3G means you will be going in and out of 2G hunting for the 3G and battery life goes down fast.

Check O2s coverage map for 3G. Personally I don't see a big difference on the BlackBerry between 2G and 3G. If you tether then yes.

I'm in South Florida where tmo has decent 3g network. I had an 8900 for 1.5 weeks, then borrowed a G1 and was blown away with the difference in browsing & download speed. Very crisp and easy browsing, but the G1 battery dies after 6 hours.

RIM and Tmo: there's no excuse for not having a 3g blackberry on tmo's network!! the users need this yesterday!

I am a happy user of a 2.5G Curve 8900.

I was originally on a 7250 (1G) then went to a Curve 8300 (2.5G) then to an iPhone 3G, and now back to a Curve 8900 (2.5G)

Honestly, 3G is great for browsing. But on my iPhone (and on my Blackberries) I didn't do much browsing. 2.5G is good enough for PIN email and stuff like that. Even downloading pictures in HTML email isn't painful.

I opted for the 8900 over the 9000 (Bold) simply because Roger's 3G network kinda sucked when I was on iPhone. Calls would drop or never connect at all. I have no problems on Roger's EDGE (2.5G) network.

I've checked the coverage, and can't really fathom out if its 3g or 2g around my area.

Anyway is there anymore people out there that have used the 8900 over the iphone?

what are your thoughts on this 3g vs 2g debate?

I think you should just get the iPhone and be done with it.

Wirelessly posted

The iphone isn't much smaller than the bold. I have had all 3 and can tell you the bold is a keeper. The iphone is flashy. But no picture messages on it. The 8900 is pretty nice. But it really just depends on the 3g coverage where you are

I work for AT&T and originally had the iPhone but traded it in for the Bold. MUCH MUCH better in my opinion. Barely bigger than the iPhone if size is one of the factors leading you away from the Bold.

1. Yes BB can cut/paste
2. I believe you can sync files with BT but I've never done it so I can't say with 100% certainty.
3. You can MMS with BB.
4. You can change the order of the icons (including hiding them if you dont want them) on any BB.

Not the same situation but I have my phone charger right in between a tv and my monitor. I do get a little interference in the tv speaker when UMA stops working and it tries to go EDGE. But it's nowhere near what my Razr did.

Other than the interference, would you have kept the iphone?
