No, i don't think it is slower than without the Garmin software.
I haven't recognized a difference.
The best thing is that you only pay once and can use the software for the lifetime of the phone. For VZ Navigator they charge monthly 9,99 $ and in germany Vodafone charges 9,95 xxx8364; per month with maps for Europe.
Garmin charged me 89 xxx8364; with maps for Europe which is cheap compared to Vodafone and as i said before it works perfect for me.

I just downloaded it on my storm and it installed.

does it really use the GPS satelites or just use cell-tower-triangulation?

how is this app on battery usage?

Yes, it does use GPS satellite. I don't think it use a lot of battery. So far, it works well on my storm. One thing I won't buy it cuz Garmin doesn't allow to transfer license to other BB device if you decide to upgrade later on. My trial version will be expired in few days.

A couple things of note for me.
I have a few Garmin units and all their software.

I can't use any of that software with this mobile version, disappointing considering there's an 8 gb card in the phone.

The mobile version won't even start up if there's no cellular signal.

If this phone crashes and needs replacement I have to beg some Garmin csr to let me transfer the license, **** that.

No ability to lock the orientation, actually a big deal if it's in a tankbag because little bumps on the road cause the orientation to constantly change and you can't do a thing about it.

And lastly, even if they fix any of that for the Storm, I've used my trial up and can't test the new version before spending money.

I'll stick with my hardware Garmins and not waste my cash on this junk.
