Oof, maybe that is it. I definately want unlimited Blackberry data. You would think their systems would prevent them from provisioning the PDA data plan on a Blackberry.

Anyone know how long before you are able to check the status of your order online? It keeps telling me I have an invalid order number. Not a good sign.

When I ordered my 8700 ( @ Cingular store over the phone) I asked the salesperson to ask for a tracking # or if I could check the status online. Cingular reps response to the store clerk was: " he will probably have it before it shows up online". Hope that makes you feel better about it not showing up online.

Hey test and others....thanks for all the info on the numbers guys. I was able to call the 877 number and place an order through the business channel. I'll have to wait till Monday to get it since we are closed Thursday and Friday. Bonus is I was able to get it for the 349.99 price. Otherwise it would have been 449.00 at the store. Thanks again for all your help everyone.

First time post here, but thanks to all of the great up-to-date info above, I was able to get mine ordered today as well. Details below:

- Called 1-800-794-8246, after navigating multiple options, was able to finally speak w/ a rep (Katherine)

- She didn't see the 8700c on her computer but was able to make a call to another rep and got it ordered

- I called about 4pm ET and got it finished at 4:40pm ET, also, I am located here in Atlanta, GA

- I was not eligible for an upgrade (I was told) since I became a Cingular customer back in Feb 2005, so they offered me the handset for $324.99 + $14.95 next day shipping (I am supposed to get it tomorrow afternoon) + $18 device upgrade charge

- I also threw in the fact that I'm currently on the 4000 minute plan for just 1 of my 5 lines so that might have helped

Anyways, I'm new to BBs so I've bookmarked this forum to get useful hints and tricks

Thanks,

-Ed

I think that I finally got mine ordered. I ended up with the Business group.

I have an order number and the line that I was upgrading shows that I no longer can do so (meaning that they really did enter the upgrade information). Now all I have to do is see what arrives in FedEx.

Cost $349 + $15 Fedex. I will apply the $50 rebate which the rep did not know about and end up at $299 + Shipping.

.... stay tuned for the next chapter.

Scooters,
Please post here if you figure out how to get the rebate. I also ordered from the business group who said "no rebate for business customers". But, I plan to follow up after I have the device in hand.

Here is the rebate form that includes the 8700c

http://onlinestorez.cingular.com/cel..._5010_1379.pdf

I am assuming it will work for all of us - even those they said "no rebate" like me.

Hopefully a stupid question, but, I can just move a Cingular SIM from a 7100 to the 8700 and all should be good right? Just need to activate the 8700 PIN with the BES server.

Fortunately for one employee they are being upgraded to the 7100 and FORTUNATELY for me I am going to take the new 8700
Got mine confirmed @ 3:10pm PST- Rep said only a couple were left in stock right now.

Default what about a leather holster for 8700

Anyone have any idea where to find a leather holster that would fit the 8700

Does leather or plastic come as stock in box?

I'm new to BBs, and thanks to this thread I was able to place an order right now with cingular. I was quoted $369 with a $50 MIR (w/ 2 yr contract ext..there were options for a 1 yr and no contract also), but she said there was a problem with the system and the rebate tag wasn't working or something (not really sure what happened) so she just billed me $319 and I don't have to worry about the rebate woot! It will be interesting to see if I can send it in anyway hehe.

I called the 877-201-9521 number. At first she didnt' see it on the computer and had to verify everything. I was able to get the overnight $14.95 shipping but she said their "overnight" means 2-4 business days. We'll see when I get it =)

I'm going from a Tre 650 to a BB for the first time, can't wait =)

The ONLY thing I wish would be different is that it had a black case like the 8700R rather than the grey one for the C version =(. The Rogers version looks so nice!

Default leave note at door

you can leave a note at door asking Fed Ex to leave package from Cingular at door / then sign note and date it. That will help - unless it specifies a signature is needed. Then you are screwed.

Default I want one!

I think I'm going to go into the store and return my 7290 tomorrow. I just bought it last week. I will then have the store order me one and go back to my Nokia 6682 until the 8700 arrives.

I am a BIS customer thru Cingular. Can I pop the SIM from my 7290 into the 8700 and hit the ground running, or is there going to be a problem?

As long as you keep the BlackBerry data service on the account. Then you need to go change the IMEI and PIN on the web site. You may need customer service help as it may not have released the other unit.
