Default hello to all from chicago

Hello to all on this forum and greeting from the great Windy City. I am going to be a newbie to the blackberry world, as I plan on purchasing a 8310 curve, later this week. I am looking forward to the new advantages that a blackberry will bring me and also the support and assistance that I am sure to be seeking and finding in this forum. I have learned from previous experience with other forums that they offer a great amount of knowledge and far surpass any knowledge than most sales providers offer over the phone or in their store.

I hope you all don't think my newbie questions will be to silly.
I have already read through most of the FAQ and sticky's, but I am sure I will have more questions once I purchase my new phone.

Perhaps I can start off with one my questions now.....

I currently have a RAZR through AT&T and in need of transferring over to a smartphone for work purposes. I had contemplated the iPhone temporarily, but in doing my research, find my needs to be geared more towards the blackberry.
My question or concern is this, I have an upgrade offer thru AT&T that will basically give me the blackberry curve for $99. I am concerned that I will purchase that curve and within a month or two a new blackberry will be released. For example, the coveted blackberry 9000 series many people have talked about on the net. With WES being in May and many rumored releases scheduled for mid 2008, I just don't want to have to turn around and by another phone in a few months.
However, I do look at it like this, even if a new phone does come out I will only have paid $99 for the curve and always have a back-up, if necessary.

What do you guys/girls think? Any input is much appreciated?

Greetings, windycitybberry! Welcome to the BBF.

Do it now. I like your thinking... get another when it comes out, which probably will be in 60 or so days.

Greetings and welcome. I too am new to the forum, although I have owned my BB Verizon 8830 for some time. The nice thing I have found with this forum is two things; 1. DUH, no question(s) is too new or dumb and 2. you will find an answer to your questions and a resolution to your problems.

In answer to your other thought, buy the BB; don't buy anything else. If a new BB comes out that you like better, buy that. I use my BB in my business and personal life and truly cannot do without it

Welcome!

If you were to get the Curve and then, heaven forbid, you don't like it I would suspect that you could get your money out of it on the used device market pretty easily.

I would bet even more that you will find it to be hard to get rid of....crackberry-there's a reason it is called that!

Either way, welcome to the Forums!

I had blackberries forever, then I switched to an iPhone. That lasted all of 3 months before I switched back to a curve. They really are addictive.
