Default UMA and Bold

Please Login to Remove!

I have done some research on here and there seems to be conflicting answers as to why there is no UMA for the Bold. It would make sense to me that if there was a t-mobile OS for the Bold that we would be able to use UMA, but some say that UMA and 3G are not compatible. So, if I have Rogers Bold I would not be able to use UMA. Then there have been posts saying that Samsung has a phone that supports 3G and UMA. Does anyone know the truth to the usage of UMA on the Bold? I was also wondering if there was any t-mobile OS out at all for the Bold.

TIA

UMA is carrier and device controlled. An 8320 on T-Mobile has UMA. Same device on AT&T will have no UMA, as AT&T does not support it. T-Mobile has (limited) 3G, but that has nothing to do with UMA.

T-Mobile does not and will not carry the Bold, so they have not tested or released the OS.

On the subject of the handheld OS, RIM writes all of the code, and the carriers test and release on their own schedules. There is no special branding or anything carrier specific in the code.

Thank you for the response,

Is there the possibility that a 4.6 T-mobile OS tested and release for another future blackberry would work on the Bold?

No chance whatsoever. 8310 code doesn't work on an 8300 or 8320. Software for one BlackBerry cannot be loaded onto another model.

The hardware in the Bold does not support UMA at all. No UMA on the Bold, ever.

Default Actually it has UMA capability

RIM said this monring on the phone the BOLD does have capability for UMA and UMA is strictly a carrier issue. ATT does not offer UMA at all and will never offer on the BOLD while Tmobile does and should the BOLD be released on Tmobile, since it has wifi capability, it is the decision of the carrier as to whether or not they offer UMA on that device... long and short of it is that the BOLD hardware can and does support UMA - ROGERS and ATT do not right now and Tmobile does not support the phone yet - so no UMA on BOLD until or if TMobile releases their versions.

The research I did indicated that there are currently NO 3g devices that support UMA. It has something to do with the complexity of prioritzing all of the different options (EDGE, 3g, and UMA).

The Samsung P270 has been designed to have UMA and 3G in the same device, and upon release will be the first of its kind.
