In this environment, Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003 sp2

user is able to update a contact in Outlook and the update makes it to the handheld, but not in the other direction.. from the handheld to Outlook.

Any help? I have seen this error when there is a permissions issue.. but the user 'appears' to have the correct mailbox permissions. besadmin has read, recieve as, send as and admin info store.

yep, permission issue. Someone in my environment added besadmin to the domain admins and.. its a full exchange admin too. wow ! ..time for a shotgun !

The BES stored the RefID and entryId somewhere within its hidden folders within you mailbox. The BES here is trying to find that message for one of the following reasons:
Move message
reply
forward
delete
change status (read/unread)
some other reason for the BES that I have no idea about.

By the MAPI error code of 0x8004010f (MAPI_E_NOT_FOUND 8004010f List of Extended MAPI numeric result codes) you can tell that the message was not found in the users mailbox.

So maybe the message was hard deleted or maybe the message was deleted, and then the user deleted the trash before the BES had a change to reconcile the message.

Hope this helps. If it was a permission issue then you would have got a permission related error message.
