MSN/Google Talk/Jabber/Stupidity Help

This all started with my BlackBerry, so it's relevant here...
About 2 years ago I followed the guide to add my MSN contacts to Google Talk so I could use it on my BlackBerry. It worked fine, but when I started using iChat on my Mac recently (using Google Talk) I was getting a constant barrage of requests to allow people who were already on my MSN. If I accepted, they came back the next time I started iChat again.
My solution was to deny them, and then delete the contacts from Google Talk. It worked, until I opened MS Messenger on my Mac where all my contacts were blocked. So, I unblocked them all.
Then I opened MSN on a PC and had about 20 requests for users to add me (which I accepted). Now those are the only contacts I have when using MSN/Live on a PC. When I look at MS Messenger on my Mac, all 100+ are there just as they were before, as they are with the Live client on my BB.
Does anybody have a sweet clue what the fudge is going on here? It seems that there's two lists going on, but restoring a backup of the full list to a client showing the small list says that there aren't any new contacts.
