Default Setting up gmail account

Please Login to Remove!

I had not been using email accounts on my Torch 9810 but now I want to setup a gmail account. So I go to Setup, choose EMail accounts, then choose Internet Mail Account. First it wants to set me up with an e-mail account with the email address associated with my Blackberry ID and asks me for a password. But I want to setup a gmail account instead so I choose "Add another email address" on the bottom, and then choose Gmail. I then type in my gmail email address and my gmail password and choose Continue. To my amazement it tells me that I have an "Invalid email address or password....". Is there something special I need to do to access my gmail mail account from my Torch 9810 ?

When I enter my password for that e-mail account, it rejects it.

I tried again adding a mail account for the email address associated with my Blackberry ID:

I entered my BB account password, by which I assume you mean my Blackberry ID password, only to get the message "Your device had a problem connecting to the server." When I press the "Retry" button it copmes back telling me "Invalid email address or password."

Possibly the issue is the new ATT email system is already in operation. It was supposed to start on the 19th .
They are asking for all Yahoo email addresses to be deleted and reentered. Based on their past performance I would expect issues. Maybe Gmail is also involved.
I will be trying this with my email addresses and see what happens.

I previously got rid of my Yahoo email address because I did not think I needed it anymore and it was setup for me when I used AT&T as my Internet provider. Are you saying that as my cellphone provider I need to login to my account on the AT&T wireless site and setup a Yahoo email account so I can access gmail through my 9810 ?

The email I received as others did indicated they were changing the way they do blackberry data. It may be they are dropping the encryption between the phone and the carrier. Calling ATT is useless , they do not have any answers.
I would try adding an ATT email address if they are your carrier and if that works try adding a Gmail email address. I have 4 emails on my phone and one is a gmail email and it works so far....

As for the blackberry id, you need to add it first to validate the security it wants.

this is the link to add one or reset the password.
I do not believe it makes any difference if the email used is a gmail one.

ATT is my cellphone carrier but I have no ATT email address which I know about, other than the one for which they send me notifications about payments etc. But that is not an ATT account but my own account from my website provider. Needless to say I tried entering that account with its email address and password but it failed, and adding my gmail account with its gmail address and password also failed. I already have a Blackberry ID and password and do not need to reset it or change it.

does your blackberry id use an email address? If so add that to the phone and try adding a second one.

Well, The message your getting based on your post states "invalid email"
To my knowledge the ID is an email address with a pin number.

this is the link and you will see the requirement for an email address. I know of no restriction using a gmail address if you want.

I don't use gmail, but does Google require app password now instead of account password, as Yahoo, Outlook, etc nowadays? And if so, are you generating and using an app password and still getting the error?

FWIW I'm trying to open the BlackBerry Knowledge Base web site to look something up, and the site isn't opening for me. What I recall is a list of things to check. For instance, logging into email on the website and doing the captcha. There may also be a setting at Google two allow less secure connection methods. Anyway, suggest looking for articles on gmail at the Knowledge Base if it will open for you.

EDIT: This isn't the article I was thinking of, but see the following. It is specific to the error you observe. I suspect the issue is two-step verification.

Apparently the Blackberry Knowledge Base site has a headache, It took 3 minutes to fully load.

I still think blackberry id needs a valid email address to work. the OP does not have one loaded and is getting error messages.

References to errors on the BKB site all talk about email addresses.

It easy to do and "Resistance is Feudal"
