Smile dual / twin SIM card holder for BB?

Please Login to Remove!

has anyone every tried those dual or twin SIM holders for BB?

there isn't one specifially made for BB but they all basically work the same way...just have to fit the holder inside the BB and inside the SIM slot...i may give this a try as i'm trying not to use my corp BB phone too much...so i'm planning to use this dual SIM card holder to switch between BB (weekdays) and my own SIM card (weekends)

anyone try this on their blackberry yet?!?

something like this:

I've tried a few of these already and there are two key bottlenecks (that come to mind):
1. The middleware the dual-sim card has does not work on the BB environment (I don't know why...since it's JAVA)
2. The BB you use has to be set to manual network selection (most of the Cingular or T-MO locked phone does not allow network selection) - even with unlocking, Cingular only unlocks a portion of the network selection capabilities.

If people can solve this - I bet we can start using dual sim cards.

My question is...why can't we just clone the sim card info onto an existing sim?

Please check facts before posting.

1. Network selection is blocked by the SIM, not the device.
2. NO T-Mobile SIM cards block net selection.
3. Cingular 64k SIM cards do block net selection, except when roaming internationally.
4. Thus, having an unlocked device does not matter because of 1.

i'm with rogers and their new sim cards cannot be read by exsiting sim card reader/writers...so i'm SOL...

i'm going to try and switch my network selection to manual and see if that works...

ok that didn't work...it's only switch back and forth once and then it'll return with a SIM card error...perhaps that little sim switcher app (STK) doesn't really work for the BB

oh well, carrying 2 devices it is!

The size of the SIM chip has nothing to do with it. The old "blue" or AT&T SIM chips could manually select what network to be on. The new "orange" and now the new "gold" SIMs from Cingular do not allow this. You are correct though, it is a SIM issue, not a device issue.

Sadly, the best fix for this (real support for Line 2) is disappearing from most phones, and never made its way onto the BB. And if you do find a phone that can do it, good luck getting your carrier to get you a SIM with that support.

In the U.S. this would be sweet since we could buy BB data plan from T-Mobile, but use a voice plan from Cingular (for example). Or maybe a prepaid SIM, etc.

Yes you can but the unit would have to be "unlocked" for it to work or you can reformat the mobile phone with the International OS because the phone automatically supports it
