Default Poor Battery Bold 9900

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Guys,

Experience problems with battery life , well at least i think its a problem.

Im getting around 8-10 hours battery and not even using the phone, this is with the phone just idling and answer the odd text message.

I cant see where this power is going, i have all the usuals setup lower backlight disable bluetooth ect. I have the wifi on. I have facebook so it does not update news feed and do not use twitter or any other apps. Simple email bbm facebook updates.

On Its first charge i managed over a day and for some reason now the battery has become a lot less. Any ideas whats gone wrong im happy with a fullday with medium usuage but now im getting far less then this not even using the pohne. I live in a good reception area. Could this be anything to do with the bb services going down

Could there be a problem with my battery has been charged 3 times.

Thanks Lee

I had a similar problem. First I had it on Sprint. Because of marginal signal indoors, it kept switching in and out of 3G. I switched to Verizon, which has better signal, and the battery life is much better ...

What do you reccomend I try , i appear to have a good connetion , but it looks like it drops a bit sometimes random. Should i have 3g only or 2g only (i presume i can still use all internet stuff but at a slow speed ) or 2g/3g.

Is it worth getting a battery app?

8 to 10 hours is pretty good for any smartphone.

Do not let the battery get below 20% on a regular basis as that can damage the battery. I have found that Lithium batteries like to be kept topped off so when you are near a power source, plug in.

Look for an item in our FAQ called "Maximize Battery Life" or something similar. Don't remember the exact title.

hrrm seems battery has improved at 90% after 3 hours use, this is about 15 facebook updates coming through 5 newsfeed refresh and about 40 bbms. and several emails coming through. I think thats plenty enough acceptable tbh

Leaked OS .440 is much easier on battery life - and I'm not one that subscribes to the OS releases improving battery life theory, but this one actually does improve battery dramatically. Go figger...

Hi! I also have a bb 9900. The battery life is pretty crap no matter how u use it. However, came across a guy saying u should delete the social feeds application and resize ur home screen wallpaper images to the screen size: 640 x 480.. I'll tell u what, I thought he was talking shit but it works regardless of what OS version u have. My battery last twice as long since I followed his advice.. Hope this works for evryone...

Resizing the wallpaper to make the battery life better huh? Is that the same guy that sells that "snake oil"? I bought some of that stuff and never could get it to work, might be doing it wrong though.

No, I think that makes some sense, since the device isn't having to constantly resize the image to fit the screen. All of these small things add up, as they tend to use expensive processor time, hence chewing batteries. Social feeds will kill you as well, as they eat battery like no tomorrow.

I've deleted all social feeds and only turn on Google talk and WLM when I need them, then they get turned off. I close all apps after use and NEVER leave anything except the 5 forced apps running. I am seeing excellent battery life now with all of these tweeks and feeds removed. I also have GPS off, Screen brightness @ 30%, Bluetooth off when not in use and WiFi on only when connected. I now get about 80-85% of the battery life I got on my 9780, but that only happened after I loaded .440. There's no doubt in my mind that .440 seriously improved battery life.

Yeah guess I never thought to change it since mine is already at that resolution, I could see where that constant resizing might affect performance of the battery. I guess you guys really got the short end of the stick as far as battery goes over the 9930. I go two days solid with my phone and plug it in still around 30-40 %, course I guess I don't use it like others do.

Two Gmail accounts (1 is school so hardly ever get any emails from that one), never call anyone, text maybe two people back and forth throughout the day. GPS like you is always off along with bluetooth, WIFI always on at my house and school and usually left on in between by accident. I have weather updating every 30 minutes, and no social media updating I just visit the mobile FB site. I also keep my screen brightness at 10% and 20 second timeout.

So I guess compared to other people I don't use my phone as much which allows for longer battery life. I am glad that update seems to have helped yall with getting more battery life, coming from Droid I remember what it feels like not making it a full 8 hours on one charge.

Good tip they offer ...

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++
"To keep your device running in top shape, make sure your battery is fully charged whenever possible. Whether youxxx8217;re at your desk, in your car or relaxing at home, keeping your device plugged in will ensure the battery is ready to go when you are."
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++

Wow - let me make sure I understand what they're saying...to get my BlackBerry to run longer, I have to charge it more often? Gee...good thing they told me that, because I never thought to charge it...

It took some f_cking genius @ RIM to figger that out huh? No wonder they're in the toilet these days...ROFLMFAO

RIM - Get a clue!!!!!!!! Wake up!!!!!!!!

I can see why - but mine's been off since day one, as well as GPS/Bluetooth when not in use, no social feeds/ no facebook etc. Backlight at 10% with auto dimming...no apps running except the basic 5 which don't close etc...

Battery life is better on later OS's, but not even close to a 9780...

I think there may be a variety of issues: apps, os, signal, hardware, battery. I'm on my 3rd replacement. Quality on this device has not been stellar and I've had many many bb's over the years and not once did I have to get any of them replaced. Maybe I'm just lucky in the past but this 9900 has been a bit of a pain BUT I love this 9900.

All 3 9900's I had varied in quality too. The first had a bad charger inside the unit, not the USB charger. Battery would just drain even with the device turned off. Second one had good battery life but the audio jack didn't work and the touchpad was way too sensitive and quirky. I would hover (not touch) the pad and will still pick up my finger motion. Weird. Third unit, the buttons/keys beside the trackpad are stiff and the plastic cover seems to be lifting off. I consider this cosmetic though. The keyboards all had a sightly different feel to them. One was more clicky than the others and another was harder to press. I only had the last unit for a few days so I'll have to see if any other issues surface from normal use.

I must be missing something, but where is the link for .440 OS?

Thanks,

Just sharing my latest experience: I have not upgraded software, just deleted the social app, charged my 9900 and tried it. It went for 38 hrs with medium/low use (20-30 min calls, web browsing, 30-40 emails)...it is not as great as my 9700 but I think 38 hrs is not bad....what do you think?
