Hi All

I'm considering buying the BlackBerry Curve 8900 Smartphone and have never used a BlackBerry before.

Is it possible to use the GPS on the phone offline (No data download)? Reason is that I'd like to use the phone as a GPS device when I'm overseas and would like to avoid the very expensive roaming data fee's.

Can you turn off the data transmission but leave the phone turned on so I can receive phone calls and text messages?

Yes you can... that was one of the main reasons, why I have written my own App that is 100% offline... [but please do not mix "Navigation" and GPS]

What is the difference between GPS and Navigation?
Is it:
GPS = Tell me my geographical position
Navigation = TomTom stile telling you which turn to take using GPS to do that job?

If yes, I would have to refine my question: Can I navigate with the BlackBerry offline?

Read the "All Known GPS Apps" thread. There are 2 options currently for navigating without BB data. No one recommends either option.
