Default updated software @ still locked

Please Login to Remove!

Hey, what's going on everyone.
my first time here
u guys have an amazing forum and u managed to answer all of my questions except one.
I got the pearl from rogers and no way do i want it branded...cuz i travel to europe and i have a fido unlimited account...
So....i thought that unlocking it would be as simple as downgrading the software from .51 to .42 (ofcourse i read about the dim backlight thing on this forum)....but the shit is still not acceting my fido card even though the MEPPD page is reading all DISABLED.
SO....i dont know what now.
im not a fan of payng a hundred dollars to get it unlocked.....thought this is how u do it.
It worked for my k750 erricson when i bought it branded to ORANGE in europe.
SO anyone out there know what's going on...

there is one outher thing...
i did pull the battery after the downgrading...cuz i thought it was completely not working.
Three minutes later i read...not to pull the battery on ur forum..

could pulling the battery do this or am i missing something?

please let me know.

Just wondering WHERE you read that downgrading the software would unlock it.

The only way to unlock a BlackBerry is with the correct code, which is only available from a carrier (not Fido) or from a commercial unlocker. I would contact the commercial unlockers and find the least expensive one that will work for you.

Second - you can not use your BB on Fido for anything except voice and SMS text. Fido does not recognize the BlackBerry. No Internet; no data. Voice and SMS only.

Thanx for such a promp reply NJBlackBerry.

I thought unlocking worked the same as the old phones did where u flash it, and it unlocks.

Or maybe i just don't know what im doing...lol

Now...guess i'll have to get it unlocked like everyone else...has the IMEI number changed because I changed software versions or is it still the same as it's written on my blackberry box?

If it's changed how do i find the new one.

And about fido....u can't configure the blackberry to access fido internet? So, u mean to say i can't even do any kind of a push-email system with this blackberry from fido? That sucks cause i have the $50 unlimited data plan.

Thanx again.

The IMEI can not be changed.
Go into Options / Status to double check it.

Your unlimited data plan on Fido will not work on a BlackBerry. You will have zero data access....

As you've discovered, BBs are different than phones.....

Thanks great! But the OP got a Pearl from Rogers and wants to use Fido. SO CIngular doesn't exactly enter in the equation, does it?

Nope, like everything else at Robbers they call it a global unlocking service and charge $250 yes thats right $250... Better off calling one of the services in the sponsors forum, pay $20-$30 or so and be done with it.

Rogers appears to be quite sucky about releasing their unlocking - they want to stick it to us with the expensive roaming charges. If anyone has the Rogers unlocking code - by all means - share it freely on this forum ..... wouldn't mind getting it myself - you know - would just love it to stick it to the man - as in Ted Rogers !!!

Really like the Robbers analogy posted by finch ..... the price you have to pay when you give a quasi monopoly to one carrier !

what reason did you give cingular for needing it unlocked? I was talking to them last night and they were giving me some mumbo-jumbo about needing to know where I was going and if it was a place that didn't have coverage they would unlock the phone, provided it wasn't purchased at discount...

I got a headache listening to him and guessed that if I had let him go on all the restrictions would have gone as far back as God's statement of "Let there be light" as quoted in the book of Genesis.

Come on guys, easy on the rookie. We have all been in his shoes once upon a time. Yes, it may get tedious at times answering the same questions when 99.9% of the questions asked by a rookie may be found via the "SEARCH" bar. Aren't we here to help? I'm sure the rookie will figure out things real soon like the rest of us. Personally, I remember when i got my first bb I asked a whole bunch of redundent questions because I was so excited to have my phone up and running asap. Be easy guys...

rel12561

I was a former CW sales rep and the you can have your device unlocked even if you did purchase the handset at a discounted price you are entitled to have that handset unlocked however there are always qualifications that you have to meet in order for you to have it unlocked without any issues or nagging CW reps or cs reps because CW has become a little too ****y for their own good. This is what you want to tell them if you want to have it unlocked successfully and seamlessly.

1) you purchase handset at the "no contract" price.
2) leaving the country for at least 2 months (any long periods of time will work as well).
3) you have past your initial 90day grace period
4) tell them that ou are a frequent traveller to and from Europe and it's for business, by law they can not stop you for making your dough...
5) stress the importance of having your handset unlocked. technically they have no right to ask you "why" or "what are your intensions..." Many will ask just because it's more work for them and some of the tech guys are extremely lazy.

Thank god I jumped ship to TMO where "customers comes first." We didn't just win the JD Powers Associates Award for customer service 6yrs running by being difficult.

If there is anything I may help you with please let me know. My e-mail is [email address]. I'm not sure if my PIN is UTD but you may try. Good luck and I hope I have shed a little bit of light on the situation.

I don't know man, but the more i read about the blackberry on this forum the more im trying to figure out....1) why i bought this...phone, i guess that's what it is...and 2) why you people dig it so much?
I might as well go back to my nokia e70 if i want a real phone. I thought a blackberry was supposed to do more than just what a cell phone does but it's turning out that, that's not the case at all. I mean, it's not blowing up my skirt, as Charlton Heston once said in True Lies. And i need my phones to do just that.
Do u guys all have it just to mack the corporate hotties or, like whats the deal? I mean if it is that then, eh...u know...that's cool with me...i mean some of them are like.....damn.....u know what im sayin'....hahahaha
But there's gotta be more to this phone then just status, looks and $600 for an unlocked blackberry...see what im gettin' @

Any of u know a good unlocking web site?
unlockitnow.com???? any good?
or...what else is there.
One that doesn't jack me for my cash flow.

Thanx guys.
u da best!

Yes, we mack the corporate hotties. We are cool wif dat.

WHATEVER THAT MEANS.

The BlackBerry is not for everyone - especially for the Sidekick set.

The BB excels at wireless, secure e-mail. It is not for gamers, hackers, kids or people WHO MUST HAVE 24X7 IM.

It is for people who want secure, wireless e-mail, a decent browsing experience, and Internet access.

And I have no idea what you gettin @

Sorry... This may be the wrong device 4 u.

Might as well post a random number. Unlocking codes are IMEI dependent...one code for individual phone.

There will be no macking on BB Forums. What you do in your own home is your business. Not that there is anything wrong with that (was Seinfeld referring to macking)?

My head hurts from this thread.
I also thought a Mack was some sort of cult-like Apple computer than I am not familiar with.
