Just curious as I am still semi new with the Pearl but how many do some kind of reset every week to free up memory and other things ?

I haven't reset my phone for a couple of months with no issues. Your mileage may vary, but I see no reason to reboot my phone regularly.

I'm with the T-Mob now, but when I was with Cingular on the 7100g, my corp. account rep told me that as new towers get provisioned, the only way to get the phone to recognize those towers is to pull the battery and perform a reboot. This was largely realted to the AT&T Wireless towers and Cingular towers being integrated into a single network. I have to say, when I started performing weekly reboots, there were "dead zones" that disappeared.

I have posted another reply to a different thread about reboots, but to summarize, I experienced an improvement in voice dial recognition after rebooting and allowing the database to rebuild.

There may be other benefits... It's only about 30-60 seconds out of your week. If you realize or perceive a benefit from it, go ahead and do it. For me, it takes just as long to snap off my rubberized case and take the battery door off as it does for the phone to reboot.

Just my $.02, YMMV.

As a long time Windows user I'm used to rebooting!

I know my BB doesn't need it but I probably do it once a week for old times sake.

I didn't start out rebooting regularly, but after I had problems with the Opera Mini beta leaking memory and wigging out, I thought what the hey. It can't hurt, it might help.

I concur. I have also been told that cell towers are updated almost daily and reboots are necessary to receive updates to any wireless device.

I usually only reboot when needed but have been told that it is a good idea to reboot every so often. Until reading this thread I didn't really know why other than it frees up memory. Thanks for the info guys....

Why would it free up memory? With VZN I'd call a number for it to recognize new tower service. There's no number for TMOB?

Mine reboots fairly fast, the issue I have is I have to remove the Seidio rubberized case every time and that can be a hassle depending on the mood of the case.

Anyone believing in the crap with towers being updated must be a real noob in the area of GSM technology.

Your phone does not keep any base of towers and does not need to reboot to recognize the new ones.

You talk like people from the 19th century and believe things no one would ever believe.

Sometimes after uninstalling an app a reset is required to finish the uninstall process. I could count the number of freezes I've had on one hand.

Please provide details and information to back this claim up. I got my information from the engineers at Cingular support. Where does your information come from?

I've never dealt with Cingular support, but if their support is anything like Verizon or TMO, the people are hardly engineers. LOL
