I love it when people get that sense of entitlement to things. It's that... "I am the employee and you will do as I wish." Just rememer who signs the checks people. You work for THEM and if they don't want you shooting nudie pics of your girlfriend on the company dime...TOO BAD!
I'd think the BES admin would want access to those!

MicroSD card usage can be used to circumvent attachment disabling on a corporate email platform. And can in fact be used to store company documents that in some cases you wouldn't be able to get out of the building otherwise.
My point is that if someone really wanted to get the data out, I'm sure that preventing them from using their BlackBerry to do it won't stop them. You can find some real "James Bond" type stuff on the internet these days that would get the job done.

...ok let me say this: I'm certain there are legitimate reasons out there to block these things. I'll also admit that I'm sure there are BES Admins that would like to give you access to the camera or whatever but are given orders to block them. But in some cases I think it's just a power trip. And in my company - that is the case because we keep getting our "Mahogany row" friends to overrule them and let us keep on using our cameras and Micro SD cards ; )

Do you seriously think we have nothing better to do than to sit here and lock down features on your COMPANY device? Perhaps you need to walk a mile in our shoes before you start spouting off about things you know nothing about.

I am the BES Admin for our company and I have both a BlackBerry device and a 3G iPhone. And there are many other BES Admins (and moderators here) that also have used iPhones (or have them now). So we do have a jobs that lets us play with 'toys'. And that's exactly what they are - TOYS.
See? Tell me this guy doesn't sound like he gets off on stopping people from using their cameras and SD cards ; )

(Like I said in another post - maybe not ALL BES Admins ...but in the case of MY company, they sure do like to fight to remove those features. Luckily for my group, we have friends in higher places.)

This guy is a woman.

And not that I owe you any explanation, but my company does not block the camera, and we only encrypt the SD cards.

My point is that you have not walked a mile in a BES Admin's shoes, so you have no cause to paint us all with the same brush.

Oh brother.

You'd worry all the time her power hungry instincts would be finding ways to "disable" and "block" certain of your features.

I say stick to those in your low places.

I can't believe this thread is still active!

Suffice it to say, you should consider yourself fortunate, if you have any functionality above and beyond that which is required to perform your day to day duties as they pertain to your job.

I would not mess with juwaack68. She will disable your "features" before you know what hit you.

All BES Admins are MEAN.
Just plain MEAN. They make up rules and policies because they want to.

End users (Gen Y in particular) should be able to do whatever they want, on the corporate network. at any time.

Maybe one day when they are all grown up and running things, they'll get it.

That is the feeling in the BlackBerry Boys Clubhouse (where we have NO policies at all).

I'm NOT taking a side in this thread, and I really can appreciate the sarcasm here, but when people see things like what is on this well-respected moderator's profile it really does cause problems with public relations.

Link to Profile

Just sayin...

What does what's in a moderator's profile have anything to do with what a BES Admin blocks or doesn't block on a BES.

I fail to see your point.

Some of the discussion on this thread revolved around how admins treat users and implied that some users feel that some admins are on a power trip.

You don't understand why an animation of an Admin kicking a User in the head while a Mod looks on approvingly might be a problem? You don't see why this might be considered symbolic of what many users see as how admins feel about their jobs?

Much of this thread has been offtopic. Just thought I'd join in the fun.
