Default Blackberry Messenger Conversations auto delete/disappear

Please Login to Remove!

This problem seems to be really popular, but all the answers continue to be pointed to free memory issues, which is not the case a lot of times.

I'm running an 8830, but also know people with 8310s and 8320s who are all experiencing this same issue, and most of the time, memory free is anywhere from 7-13MB.

Seems to be really random too when they disappear. I would lean towards 4.5 being the reason, but can't be too sure.

can anyone help out?

I believe that the bbm has a specific memory cache and when it hits that limit then it starts to remove the older information.

With the arrival of 5.0 and the ability to save conversations, I don't think we will have that issue anymore.

I would really try and free up some more memory.. 7-13MB is quite low.

I disagree than 7-13MB is low. I typically run with less than 1 MB of "File Free" without issue. Are you confusing the units in Options/Status?

That is nuts. Less than 1Mb? You're lucky messages don't start deleting, or you don't start experiencing lag.

hi all, I found similar problem on my wife's pearl 8120, by turn off, pull out your battery then replace back your battery could solve the problem. I think this should be a memory related issue..CMIIW

1 MB is extremely low, you might want to check your conversion to MB..

Maybe he doesn't get that many messages?

Sorry to hijack this thread, but this intrigues me. I'm using a 8820 running 4.5.0.110 (Platform 2.7.0.90). Over the course of the last few days I've removed some apps and I currently have, under Options:Status: File Free: 7106298 Bytes. 7MB, right? I've frequently had as low as 2MB. I get, oh, 50-60 emails a day; this is my work blackberry. Many have large attachments, but of course these aren't downloaded unless I ask for them.

A few times a day I'll get delays with a spinning hourglass, but I've been able to correlate that to large emails being downloaded or other background network activity.

I wasn't even aware that BB Messenger wasn't /supposed to/ close out old conversations when they've been idle for a while.

How much File Free do other users have, and how much does RIM actually suggest as necessary for reasonable performance?

Calendar and messages take up a bit more then 5 MB itself but for a business user that can be typical...

Make sure you clear your browser cache and do the occasional battery pull, you might want to look into the QuickPull application to schedule a reboot sometime during the night.

Or go threw the memory thread stickied in the General forum.

I was able to free up 23 MB on my 8830, using that thread!
