Normally, exiting the restarting the program will resolve the issue on a couple of occasions I've had to power cycle the phone (not necessary to pull the battery).

I have had cases where the GPS receiver will not properly connect if I have my Jawbone headset paired already. Also when both the GPS receiver and the Jawbone are connected, I often hear faint clicking in the Jawbone earpiece when I'm on a call.

I wonder if its a Pearl issue or if the 359 has a firmware issue? Should I try a different GPS receiver? I bought the 359 from Cingular and still have 2 weeks to decide....
I'm using 8700g, on TMO. Not using any other BT device. I dont' notice anything with BBmaps prior to it stopping updates of my position.

Used my 359 this morning with my 8703e and BB maps. I didn't have any issues. Could this be an isolated problem associated with the puck you have? Do you use another GPS program like Telenav, or Wayfinder and experience the same issue?

In my case, I've only used BBMaps with the 359.

brucejr, there is a thread from early January, "A BBmaps questionm.". The OP describes a problem which sounds similar but maybe not. You replied to the OP that the problem is the reason you swithced to another app (Wayfinder, I believe.). What was the problem you were having? I guess it isn't same thing as here in my case and what the others on this thread describe?

It was something kinda sorta similar. My problem was with Wayfinder. It stopped working all together for my 8703e. I switched to Telenav. Reason I tried Wayfinder is that you can pay a one time $99 fee for lifetime membership. Advised by the Wayfinder people that 8703e does not work with them (interesting since I was initially able to download it and it worked). This started once they updated US POI's. I now use Telenav, and BB maps. Have really good success. I realy like how I can find a location, add it to my address book, and even dial the location I am looking for. I haven't had any problems with my BT puck. Have even left it in my car during the day (80's outside). The storage max range is listed as 158 degrees F.

Signed up with Telenav on Sunday. No issues so far with 8703e and BT-359

I still have problems with BB Maps though.

Just checked with a buddy who just got the 359 and is using it with 7100t on TMO. He has had same problem occur as me.

Also, I made twenty-minute drive to work today without a single hangup. If I'm doing something to cause it, I don't know what it is. Also doubt it is 359 losing the satellite as this has happened when I'm out in the open, and the 359 still shows a lock on the satellites when it happens.

I look forward to next rev of BBMaps.

No. No issues with Telenav, BT-359 and VW 8703e. I suspect, therefore, the problems I was having were solely with BB Maps.

Thanks for update. That's good to know. Makes me more confident in my thinking that my issue is BBmaps as well.

I am having this issue with my Pearl and my BT-359. I've narrowed it down some. I *believe* it's an issue with the the Bluetooth GPS com port. I have no idea what's causing it. Currently this is what I'm seeing:

I start GPS in BBMaps and it works fine. I stop GPS and exit out. I go to a couple of other apps. Then when I go back to BBMaps it won't pickup the GPS. The two small arrows come up indicating a connection but there is no connection. If I attempt to refresh the service list in Options >Bluetooth it will never update. I have to turn off the puck and turn it back on and then it will refresh the list.

This happens even in TeleNav. If I go out and do something else and then come back and try to connect it won't detect the device even though it's paired.

I beleive this is a BT GPS Com port issue and not so much a BB. I've noticed that the two small arrows indicating a BT connection will sometimes stay on even though the 359 is off or inactive. I don't know whether it's in the Pearl or in the BT-359, but it's annoying. I wish I would have read this before buying...It would be interesting to know if happens with other pucks or just this one.

I played around some more, this time on a 90 minute drive. No problem at all. I took a phone call (I was parked) and checked email (also parked). Each time I went back to BBMaps it was working fine. Go figure. I was beginning to think the problem was something on the server side with the data coming to BBMaps and that it had been fixed.

I can duplicate this every time. Open BBMaps, start GPS, Stop GPS. Then go to a couple of other apps, click around a little. Then come back to BBMaps or TeleNav and try to start GPS again. It doesn't work. The GPS puck never picks up the BT connnection again (as indicated by a fast flash on the led. I have to Stop GPS and turn off the puck and start again. I have deleted all other BT devices including my 655 headset and rebooted.

This is over my head. Is what you are seeing possibly answering my issue (BBMaps stops updatinng position, etc) or are you finding another unrelated problem?

I believe it's most likely the same problem. The BT-359 loses connection with the BB. When it's connected you get a fast flash on the Blue LED on the 359. On the BB you get the two small arrows next to the BT icon. Well, on the BB the two small arrows will come up but the 359 continues to display a slow led flash on the blue led (indicating no connection.)

Thanks. I have looked at the indicator on the 359 but not the BB. I'll try tomorrow and see what I see.

Just tested this at the kitchen table. Only one trial, but I stated the 359, started BBMaps, started GPS in BBMaps, stopped GPS, opened browser, opened blackberryforms, went back to BBMaps, and started GPS. BBmaps showed my position within a second, maybe two. If this is what you are talking about JC, it didn't cause a problem in my case. At least not in one trial.

Here's an interesting variation on the behavior I have been observing. Perhaps it is just the variation in MY behavior. I went out and took the 359 with me. During the 15 minute trip out I had no trouble. I've gone a while without trouble. On the way home, I looked at my BB and the backlight had gone off. I have the timeout disabled, so it should not go off; and I knew from experiance that BBMaps had fouled up. I scrolled the track wheel, the screen came on, and the map had shifted and there was the red arrow at the edge of the display. Anyway, I was going to leave it because I was almost home. Usually I would have first tried stopping the GPS and restarting it. But leaving it alone as I did, within half a minute or so, the BB reconnected to the 359 or something, and BBMaps shifted to show my location at the center of the map and began updating my position as I traveled. I was driving and couldn't pay attention to the indicator lights on the BB and the 359 and so can't say if the BT connection was made or not during this period. Any way, so....I'm going to play with it and leave the BB alone when BBMaps stops updating, and see what happens.

I've been playing with the revised BBMaps (1.1.32 in my case) and the same problem occisionally occurs. However, BBmaps now displays info on the BT connection. When the map stops updating I get the message that BBMaps is reconnecting to the BT. Now I just leave it and the connection is remade and the map is updating within a minute or so.
