Default 8700g data problem

Please Login to Remove!

Okay, so I just got a 8700g and am not very pleased with it. The thing is, I don't want all the fancy push mail or whatever setup email accounts. All I want is a browser and GPRS/EDGE activated.

My device is unlocked. I put in my Malaysian sim card and all is fine, I get to connect to my network. It even writes EDGE at the top corner. However, I do not see a browser under application. I try to locate the browser which I find and it says that I do not have a service book for it. I mean, with my old phone, all I had was to get the GPRS settings for it and voila I can use the browser to access. I have not entered any settings of any kind to my Blackberry.

How should I go about this?

If you do not have a BB data plan then you will not get access to the browser. If you know the APN settings for TCP you can enter them on the BB under Options >Advanced Options >TCP and then use Opera Mini.

I do not know the APN settings. How do I find out? What's APN?

And also, I tried installing Opera and it says installed complete. But I do not see it anywhere in the phone. And when I see the application loader under Desktop Manager, opera is in the list but the action still writes "install" and the size of the thing is 0k. What's the problem here? I think the version of Opera is bugged on 4.2 OS.

Okay, I just called the call center and they said that I can't use GPRS on Blackberry devices on prepaid accounts. How can this be? I use GPRS fine on my Nokia devices with the same prepaid number. There must be some way to do this on a Blackberry with a prepaid account.

UPDATE: Okay somehow after hard resetting and entering bunch of APN settings from various websites I somehow manage to get the service book for the browser and all the wap stuff. I love you guys. Thanks all! No thanks to those call center guys who tell me I cant use Blackberry with a prepaid.

I'd be careful with that. You could be racking up major costs.
