Default VZW 8830 World vs. Curve

Please Login to Remove!

I've had the 8830 for about 9 months now and love it. I was wondering if there are any substantial differences between the two, which one in your opinion is better, speeds, themes, etc..

other than the camera...anything else??

Also, how "world" is the world phone anyways! haha

thanks everyone

The "Curve(s)" have the camera, built-in gps (8310) and WiFi (8320).

thank, so then I am right to assume that the 8320 is newer and it will have both the gps AND WiFi?

Also...the 8830 and the curve..in terms of access speed..which one??

thanks so much!

Over all 8800 series is a better built phone, if you want anything professional go with that, curve is more of a "FUN"berry smaller in size.

Nope. Just WiFi.

That depends on the Roaming agreement that your carrier has put in place. Bell's 8830 will work in around 209 countries for voice and for data the number is closer to 97 (that information's a few months old).

When you're talking about "access speed" are you refering to general application use or network speeds?

The current GSM-carrier Curves operate on the EDGE network: "theoretical top speed of 200Kbps, although real-world speeds will be closer to 90Kbps"*

The 8830 operates on the EvDO network: "peak speeds of 2.4Mbps and averages 300Kbps to 600Kbps"*

Where you'd feel this difference the most is when tethering the devices to a laptop or PC for wireless Internet access.

When Verizon launches the Curve the main differences between it and the 8830 will be:

- improved Multimedia support
- A2DP support (Stereo Bluetooth profile)
- onboard camera
- no GSM compatibility for world roaming
- smaller (curvier) form factor
- increased onboard memory (up from 64MB to 90MB)

wow, thank you so much for all your help. So from the looks of it, VZ is coming out with a Curve and I'll probably hold out for that. I don't use my phone ever for tethering, just standard web browsing, and I have 4 email accounts. Don't travel the world...ever, haha. So as long as the memory is the same (or more on the new curve) and I stay on the same network...looks like if I get the Curve, I'm up one camera and one wifi!

=)

I have the 8830 and can't wait for the curve to arrive. I've messed around with a friend's 8310 for an hour, and the keyboard is much easier for me to type. I like the spacing of the keys. Camera is nice, but not essential. So for me, it's really the smaller size and keyboard of the curve that will force open my wallet next month.
