Default Windows Live Messenger on a BlackBerry with T-Mobile UK (not US!)

Please Login to Remove!

Hello

I'm using a BlackBerry Curve and am a pre-pay customer with T-Mobile UK.
I don't have a Windows Live Messenger icon on my BlackBerry.

My friend's got a pay-contract SIM and is now using Windows Live Messenger on his T-Mobile BlackBerry.

I called T-Mobile and they told me that the Windows Live Messenger service is only available for pay-contract and BES customers. Not for Pay-As-You-Go customers.

Was anyone in this forum successful in using Windows Live Messenger on their T-Mobile UK BlackBerry?
If so - can you please share a) which BlackBerry? b) are you pay-as-you-go or pay monthly? c) is it working well?

Thank you
Andy

I would think Tmobile will block your access even if you load the software. It's a feature they are offering to BES customers.

Hi Andy

As a pay and go customer you are not subscribing to the Blackberry Internet Service tariff with T Mobile UK.

The icon is only being sent to those on BIS or BES and is sent to the devices by way of service books and will be run over these connections. BIS or BES cannot be run on a pay and go sim which is why you have not received this icon.

You could perhaps look into a pay monthly sim only deal to which you could add the Blackberry Internet Service tariff if you wish.

Wirelessly posted

First of all you need a Blackberry data plan.

Pay as you go blackberries are only as good as a generic phone. You do not get the privileges as a data plan Blackberry does.

Because BB applications use different data protocols, it's natural that pay as you go SIM's won't be able to access WLM.

Even most data plan BB's have trouble accessing WLM, let alone PAYG SIM's.

Hi guys
Thanks for all the information. I'm debating whether to sign-up for BES/BIS because I really want to use Windows Live Messenger on my BlackBerry. But from your posts I'm not sure if it works or not!

Can anyone reply-all and let us know whether Windows Live Messenger works for T-Mobile BIS/BES customers? I just want to make sure before I shell extra £10-20 a month...

Thanks!
Andy

I have it working on an 8300 4.5.0.52 on TM-UK. I'm on the BIS only. I am a contrcat customer with a Web n Walk plan too. No ideas how much of this is *required*.

I needed to call TM-Uk and get them to provision me.

Sorry for the newbie question: what's provisioning? why is that needed?
