I just purchased 10 blackberry 9700's for our Panama office from unlocked t-Mobile and they are not working because:

1: the t-mobile 3g band is set to 1,4,8 and I need 3g band 1,2,5,6. I have read some threads saying its hardware, but thats not true because I also have some rogers and At&T 9700 with both 1,4,8 and 1,2,5,6. I know its software controlled.

Does anyone know how I can change this to be able to use these phones with 3g???

I have read all the threads. You can not determine the frequency when you buy these blackberries. Its not a t-mobile nor AT&T not rogers issue. I just purchased 20 more blackberrys mixed and 5 of the 10 AT&T blackberrys have 1,4,8 and the rest are 1,2,5,6. 5 rogers of which 4 are 1,2,5,6 and one came with 1,4,8 and all t-mobiles (5) came with 1.4.8. So its not that I can return these phones and the boxes do not say the actual bands. There must be a solution for this

I'd also like to see this magical AT&T phone with non-AT&T 3G bands. What's the Vendor ID for both of the AT&T phones (one from each band set)?

I think you must be mistaken, or someone has changed the faceplate on some of the devices you purchased. AT&T does not operate on 3G bands 4 and 8, so you have to understand the skepticism of the users here.

Ok so I have a question and maybe it's stupid but some of this radio freq stuff goes right over my head and after reading all the "Bands" threads here I am curious.

TMobile states that they operate 3G on 1700/2100 as far as I can tell all devices from both tmobile and att/rogers work on the 2100 band. Also as far as I can tell all the devices operate in other countries on the 2100 band so why could a Rogers/Att device not operate on tmobiles 2100 band? I understand that a tmobile device could not operate on a rogers/att network because there is no 1700 or 2100 band, but don't understand why the reverse could not work. Obviously I am missing something and am curious as to what it is.

Read the Wikipedia article. Short answer, names like "1700" and "2100" are general names for frequency bands. The actual frequencies used are different.

3g band in onyx is fixed cannot change by software.
but you can choose either you want to use 3G only, 2G only or 3G&2G using e screen.

you cannot change 3G band on t-mo bb to 1,2,5,6.
