Hi all. Blackberry Curve 8900. SMS icon has disappeared. Wee envelope on top of screen shows messages held but no way to access them. Looked in full menu but no sign of icon to access SMS messages.

Tried hard re-boots, twice, but getting error message when the phone comes back on: Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException.

Any ideas? Please? My hubbie is about to throw it out of the window, and hurl himself after it. Please save him

Welcome to the forums.

From the home screen, press the Menu Key and select Show All. See if is shows there as grayed out.

If not, go to Messages > Options > General Options > SMS & Email = Separate.

Hi, thanks for replying. The first option (rom the home screen, press the Menu Key and select Show All. See if is shows there as grayed out), I'm afraid we're a bit confused by. In the home screen, there is no mune for SMS & when we press the menu key (I take it you mean the Blackberry sign?) it doesn't come up with a Show All option.

We tried your second suggestion & the SMS & Email are already separate.

Go into Messages, press the Alt key, then press S. That should bring you to your SMS messages.

What happened prior to this happening?

Not a damn thing. Had an issue approx 1 month ago where "sent" SMS messages just appeared as "pending" instead, but we sorted that with a re-boot.

Tried your alt/S option there, but it says there are no messages, while a wee envelope at the top of the main menu screen clearly shows a new message. Aaargh!!

Very interesting. I would suggest backing up all of your data. The uncaught exception error makes me wonder what happened.

I would suggest reloading your OS. You can do that by following the steps found here to the letter:

Hi I am having the exact same problem as you, my icon just disappeared one day. I think it did something in my pocket or an error thing to. If you want to retrieve your inbox and outbox you still can. You go to MESSAGES then scroll down to VIEW FOLDER then you will get a list of folders, now just scroll up or down till you find SMS INBOX or SMS OUTBOX

Thanks, we got that. The techie guys at work say it's f*****. Needs to be backed up then replaced. :(
