That is great on an LG flip phone, but how much does that help on a $500 smartphone. And why is 18 months so magical, and you get $75 after a year?

I used all the credits and special offers I could get my hands to upgrade to my current blackberry in the Spring of this year. If there is an 8700 series to buy this fall, you can believe that I will be paying full price for it.

My timing always did suck

my RIM rep misinterpereted my request for 8700 demo lines for my company and told me today that she did not know if she could get me demo lines for the 8703 for sprint (she specifically said sprint) because the unit was coming out shortly and demand was going to be too high. does this mean anything? not really. just thought it was interesting

Yesterday at lunch I went with my associate to Verizon store (his brother is the manager) in Palm Beach... He showed me the Verizon 8703... beautiful!

Called today 2 times to Sprint Blackberry Support and 1 rep told me that he didn't know anything about the device ... the other told me that is not coming... this is very frustrating, As a customer I want to stay with Sprint but they drive you away.

The guy at the store told me that this is the first device that Verizon hasn't crippled functionality wise... I am thinking about switching sooo much.

I have great faith that you are correct about October 1st, but when I call Sprint to order one on that date, is the person on the other end of the line going to know what the heck I'm talking about?

By now, I'm quite accustomed to calling back 3 or 4 times and getting 3 or 4 different answers to every question. I will say it once more: thank goodness for this forum. Otherwise, all of us poor Sprint subscribers would wallow eternally in total ignorance of what's going on.

It's a waste of time asking Sprint/Nextel Customer Care - they are NOT informed. They read from pre-written scripts, they are NOT hired to think or offer any facts. They make assumptions - DO NOT treat any of their info as fact.

Sprint has the worst BB customer focus of ALL of the BB providers. Nextel offered great services and phones. Is this our future?!

I'm very pi$$ed at Sprint!

[QUOTE=udontknowjack]I had a long meeting with Sprint today. Here is what they told me. 8703 due out in October. PTT technology being revamped to work in EVDO network as well as IDEN. They said the big sell is you will have PTT in either network which will be a big selling point so if you roam out of one network, you very well may have coverage with the other and get PTT. They are not getting away from PTT. Now, I didn't hear anything specific on a new PTT, BB, however and the 8703 won't be PTTT.[/QUOTE

Got a similar thing out of our Nextel Corp rep today. Early October for 8703 from Sprint, no new BB devices for Nextel. Looks like they will be moving things over from Nextel to Sprint. They will not kill IDEN in near future, it will be aroung for a long while. He mentioned it might be used by police, fire dept, etc.

There is a press release on the RIM website about the Sprint 8703e. My apologies for not being able to post a link.

I've got a sprint 8703e in my hand right now at work. we're doing RF tests on them (i guess a final test before they're released). these things are sweet. i've got a 7520 with Nextel and love it, but the size of the 8703 along with the qwerty keyboard kick ass. I know I want the 8703, but i don't want to lose my nextel.blackberry email address and i don't know whether to go with sprint or verizon.

any suggestions?

White, does it look exactly the same as Verizon's. Give me some more info. Probably better start screen than Verizon.

looks the same, fairly quick start up, changeable themes built in, smaller than my 7520, the only thing that i didn't like was on my 7520 i disabled my number keypad so i could use the keyboard shortcuts, and i didn't see that on the 8703. i kept hitting d to bring up notepad, and c, to compose, etc, and it would just look at my like i was stupid.

overall, besides PTT, and a camera this has got to be the sweetest BB to date. it no longer felt like i was holding a small pc to my ear, instead it reminded me of the older tiny nokia's with no ant (forgot the model).

if we still have them here, i'll try to track them down and take some pics for you guys.

here's one that was taken for RF test purposes. i'll try to get many more shortly.
