Hi all, im new at the forum and also i got a BlackBerry Pearl 8100 from my dad yesterday and i heard you can put some programs and games on it, like MSN messenger, skype etc.

First i would like to know, where can i find em and how to install it on my blackberry?

How can i know the version of my Blackberry and how can i upgrade it?

Can i access the internet on my laptop using my blackberry as modem w/o dial up and go like a broadband using the blackberry plan? how can i set it up?

Welcome to the forum.

Extra programs, third party programs, etc:
http://www.blackberryforums.com/aftermarket-software/
3rd Party Application List - BlackBerryFAQ

Your OS version can be found at Options > About... usually the third line starting with the "v."

BB as a modem:
Using BlackBerry As Modem - BlackBerryFAQ

You're in the right place to find out about your 8100. You might also check the link in my signature to Stinsonddog's Tips, scroll to the bottom of his site and download the PDF for the 8100.

Sorry for all the "search the forums" but such are valid responses because there are threads that discuss each and every one of your questions, in detail.

For example, check my thread on setting up the BlackBerry for use as a modem. Detailed instructions in there.

Also, there is a sticky on getting videos on to the Pearl.

Since you just got the Pearl, the things you need immediately are:

a Best Skins Ever protective skin [search the forum]

a MicroSD chip [search the forum]

and depending on your carrier, a decent data plan for modem use. If you are on T-Mobile, order up an unlimited data plan as that will allow UNLIMITED use of your Pearl as a modem.

Good luck and remember.... SEARCH THE FORUM. There's lots of info here. You can spend weeks setting up and "playing with" the Pearl. It's a fantastic phone and "toy."
